The steel industry in India has been moving from strength to strength. India has emerged as the fourth largest producer of steel in the world and the second largest producer of crude steel. Steel production reached 28.52 million tonne (MT). India’s steel industry has some advantages i.e. sufficient availability of raw materials, particularly quality iron-ore, a rich skill base and an expanding market.

Long products constitute almost half of the annual steel production, which stands at 53 million tonnes presently. Industry estimates show that the construction sector alone consumes close to 45 per cent of the total long products output. Stainless steel accounts for only 3 per cent of the country’s total steel production and about 70 per cent finds application in kitchenware and the rest in industries. The demand for flat steel products will be strong, with rising production of automobiles as automobile sales have risen an annual 15%. Steel along with iron has a weight of 3.64 per cent in the wholesale price index. The present index of basic metal and alloy recorded an 8.55% growth rate. Production of bars and rods recorded 19.67% growth rate and steel wires recorded 11.11% growth rate.India’s steel production is likely to surpass the domestic requirement by 2011-2012, easing pressure on price of the alloy. Other allied steel products are HR coils, CR coils, and HDG coil.etc. End users sector like auto, consumer durables, construction and electricity have all shown steady growth in recent years and Indian steel import figure further provides evidence of strong domestic demand.

Major players in the steel sectors are Steel Authority of India (SAIL), RINL, TataSteel, JSW Steel, Essar Steel and Bhushan Steel, Jindal Saw, JSL, Usha Martin, Uttam Galva, PSL, Ajmera Realty, etc.

India’s steel industry is the happening place in 2010 with global gins in the field showing keen interest in setting shop in India. India is poised to take a big leap in steel capacity creation. By 2015-16, it may become world’s second largest steel producer. The National Steel Policy has a target for taking steel production up to 110 MT by 2019–20. Nonetheless, with the current rate of ongoing greenfield and brownfield projects, the Ministry of Steel has projected India's steel capacity is expected to touch 124.06 MT by 2011–12. In fact, based on the status of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed by the private producers with the various state governments, India's steel capacity is likely to be 293 MT by 2020.

Piston Rings for IC Engines (Cast Iron)

A piston ring is an expandable split ring used to provide a seal between the piston an the cylinder wall. Piston rings are commonly made from cast iron. Cast iron retains the integrity of its original shape under heat, load, and other dynamic forces. The piston rings, which are also called as comparison rings are fit closely in the grooves provided in the piston. These rings are worn out before the wearing of the piston and cylinder wall. These rings form an effective seal and at the same time transmit heat from crown to the cylinder walls. Hence keep the temperature within the workable limit. There should be at least two piston rings in each piston of an internal combustion engine. For the higher capacity engines, there are four or even six piston rings have been used. The number of rings is depending upon the capacity and size of the I. C. Engine. In order to achieve the effective seal against lube oil and high-pressure gases leakage, a great pressure must be exerted, by each ring on the cylinder walls. Piston assembly is a heart of the IC engine. The piston assembly is composed of five basic components which are piston, piston rings, gudgeon pin, connecting rod and bearings. The piston in general is casted out of aluminium alloys and has the responsibility of take all rigorous forces. The piston is connected to crank through connecting rod pivoting around the gudgeon pin. The piston rings are split rings assembled into the grooves on the outer diameter of the piston. The piston rings is a combination of three rings serving specific purpose in running engine. The top most groove ring is known as compression ring or pressure ring which provide sealing above the piston and prevents the gas leakage from the combustion side. The second or intermediate ring act as lubrication control ring and provides enough lubrication to the compression ring and prevent scuffing. The third ring is known as oil ring or oil control ring, these rings controls the amount of lubricating oil passing up or down the cylinder walls. Also, the piston rings act as a medium to transfer heat generated while combustion and provide overall support to the piston in the cylinder. There are over 1.5 billion on road vehicles around the world which creates substantial aftermarket opportunities for the piston rings manufacturers. Also, over 110 million vehicle are produced annually among which over 70% are equipped with multi cylinder engines. The global automotive market is growth at a pace ranging between 3.5% - 4.5% annually. Growing automotive sales coupled with growth in population and affordability is anticipated to play a key role in the growth of global piston rings market. Also, piston rings are among the essential components which have the direct influence on the vehicle performance, engine power and efficiency, hence required frequent monitoring as they contribute to around 24% over all friction generated in the engine.

Safety Pin, Paper Pin, Gem Clips

The safety pin is a variation of the regular pin which includes a simple spring mechanism and a clasp. The clasp serves two purposes: to form a closed loop thereby properly fastening the pin to whatever it is applied to, and to cover the end of the pin to protect the user from the sharp point. A paper clip (or sometimes paperclip) is a device used to hold sheets of paper together, usually made of steel wire bent to a looped shape. Most paper clips are variations of the Gem type introduced in the 1890s or earlier, characterized by the almost two full loops made by the wire. Common to paper clips proper is their utilization of torsion and elasticity in the wire, and friction between wire and paper. When a moderate number of sheets are inserted between the two "tongues" of the clip, the tongues will be forced apart and cause torsion in the bend of the wire to grip the sheets together. Gem clip is a wire or plastic clip for holding sheets of paper together gem clip - a wire or plastic clip for holding sheets of paper together

Staple Pin

Staple pins are most commonly used office stationery items. There is no official establishment where these products are not used. The demand is always growing with the increase in number of offices and industrial establishments. Currently there is no other substitute for these products. Staple pins are manufactured out of 0.5 mm thick long stips of Mild steel and Gem clips are made out of Mild steel wires of 18-20 Gauge. Staple Pins are made in strips of 50 nos. Normally a packet contains 20 Strips. The staple pins shall be sufficiently strong and shall not bend in use. The pins shall be clean and bright. For this nickel plating is done. The number of commercial organizations and industries are increasing year after year. The globalization and liberalization of industry and trade have also given birth to various commercial establishments and this provides ample scope for units manufacturing office stationery items. The growth of these items will be consistent.

Bright Steel Bar from Black Bar

Black steel is created through a mill process which involves rolling the steel at a high temperature (typically at a temperature over 1700° F), which is above the steel’s recrystallization temperature. When steel is above the recrystallization temperature, it can be shaped and formed easily, and the steel can be made in much larger sizes. Bright drawn steel is essentially black steel that has had further processing. The steel is processed further in cold reduction mills, where the material is cooled (at room temperature) followed by annealing and/or tempers rolling. The raw material used in the bright bar manufacturing process are called ‘black bars’ – steel wire rods that are mostly in coil form. They are cleaned by removing their scales, which is done either by ‘pickling’ (acid cleansing) or ‘shot blasting’ (blasting steel balls) techniques. Once cleaned, the curvy coil is opened, straightened and fed into the Combined Wire Drawing machine. In the drawing machine, the wire rods are reduced (‘drawn’) to a smaller diameter, straightened and polished/cut to required specifics. The resultant finished product is a Bright Bar (called ‘bright’ due to its shiny finish), also called a Cold Drawn Bar.

Steel Wire Rope

A steel wire rope is made up of individual steel wires spun into a strand. A number of strands are closed over a central core to make up a rope. The number and size of wires will determine the best compromise possible between large wires for maximum corrosion protection and resistance to abrasion, and smaller wires for the required flexibility and handling. Wire rope is several strands of metal wire twisted into a helix forming a composite "rope", in a pattern known as "laid rope". In stricter senses the term "wire rope" refers to diameter larger than 3/8 inch (9.52 mm), with smaller gauges designated cable or cords.
