Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Projects

Non-ferrous metals are used as raw or subsidiary materials to make products in virtually all manufacturing segments. Their use has further expanded into high-tech electronic and IT industries in recent years. In particular, their consumption has sharply increased in developing countries where high economic growth continues, with new infrastructure being built alongside active industrial production.

Industry expected to post CAGR of 7% over 2015-2020 driven by increasing steel production in India and capacity additions in aluminium industry. Turnover of basic precious and non-ferrous metals rises by 8% driven by 16% growth of precious metals. In 2015, steel production value increases by 12% boosting demand for non-ferrous metals such as zinc and tin. Imports of precious metals rise by 27% to Rs740 billion in 2015 driven by increased imported volume of gold and silver. Indian basic precious and non-ferrous metals market rises by 8.3% driven by increased demand for precious metals gold and silver.

Indian demand for non-ferrous metals is expected to grow at 8 per cent between 2016 and 2021. Non-ferrous metals include metals like aluminium, copper, zinc and lead that find application in many industrial and infrastructural uses like real estate, automotive, defence, rail, power etc.

The expected demand growth in the non-ferrous metals industry is even better than the healthy trend observed in the last five years, “Over 2016-17 to 2021-22, the demand for these metals is expected to grow by around 8 per cent in line with strong economic prospects, thrust on manufacturing sector, healthy growth in key end-use segments further aided by rising usage intensity,

Global non-ferrous metals market and is expected to reach 107 million metric tons by 2020. The growth in this region is attributed to the increasing consumption of non-ferrous metals in India, China, and Japan.

SPONGE IRON - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Steel is produced through two process routes; the ore based Blast Furnace-LD Converter route or scrap or DRI based electric arc furnace route. The ore based process is adopted by large integrated iron and steel plants lassified as primary sector. Electric furnace route so far mainly using scrap as ferrous input material comes under secondary sector. The secondary steel sector, which produces steel through electric arc furnace and induction furnace, contributes 35 - 40% of total steel production of India. The input material for melting to electric furnaces, is mainly recycled scrap. Due to non-availability of scrap in the country, India is importing scrap. The sponge iron is a substitute for scrap in the electric arc furnace (upto 80%), which can be easily manufactured from indigenously available raw materials at very competitive price. Sponge Iron is the iron ore reduced in solid state by a direct reduction process using natural gas or non-cooking coal as reductant. The sponge iron is also known as Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), Hot briquetted Iron (HBI) or Metalized Iron. The term Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) is generally used for gas based direct reduced iron made in briquette shape in hot condition just after it has been discharged from the shaft furnace. Direct Reduction (DR) is a metallurgical process of producing iron from iron oxide (in the form of lump ore or pellets) directly in the solid state, unlike going through the molten stage in blast furnace. The product DRI produced by this route has a honeycomb structure with minute pores, hence it is known as “Sponge Iron”.

The finished product of such a plant is rolled stock of various purposes, such as : rails, beams, channels, angles, round, square or strip steel, special purpose shapes,, plate and sheet, tubes etc. These industries can be in India with reasonably small investments (even less than one crore rupees). Straps of rerollable quality are available in abundance and at cheap prices. The metals sector is certainly among the leading polluters of the environmental media (Add the mining sector and a huge chunk of the pollution of the air, water and soil around us, can be attributed to these). India enjoys a cost advantage compared to some countries. According to the world steel dynamics, the total cost of production for steel in the USA is $510 per tones, in Germany $557, Canada $493 and in India it is 497. There is a good scope for new entrants.

Aluminium From Bauxite of Gibbsite Variety - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

Residual rocks, in which the alumina trihydrate and monohydrate minerals gibbsite, boehmite, and diaspore predominate are classified as bauxite. Other residual minerals are developed in the unique type of rock weathering which produces bauxites, and these minerals kaolinite, halloysite, goethite, hematite, magnetites, anatase, quartz and some phosphatic and manganiferous minerals may form the lesser constituents of bauxites. Since bauxites have formed from a variety of rock types, minor quantities of residual minerals resistant to weathering. Traces of the elements barium, boron, carbon, bismuth, beryllium calcium, cerium, chromium, cobalt, copper, hafnium, gallium gold, yttrium, zinc, zirconium have been found in bauxites. Some of these elements are presumably present as secondary minerals, while other are present in unaltered mineral remnants. Halloysite is rare in older bauxites, but it is a common constituent of younger bauxites and with quartz is usually the main constituent of the residual clays underlying younger bauxites. The alumina hydrates and hydrous Aluminium silicates of bauxites are derived chiefly from the weathering of felspathoids and felspars of igneous, volcanic, and metamorphic rocks, form Aluminium silicates, felspars, micas and clay minerals of sedimentary and metamoriphic rocks, and from the less soluble minerals in particularly pure calcareous limestone. Some alumina hydrates and hydrous Aluminium silicates are produced also from the breakdown of amphiboles and pyroxenes in igneous, volcanic, and metamorphic rocks. Although certain almost pure calcareous rocks from bauxite, no bauxite has been found which is known to be derived from coarde high silica or ultra basic rocks. The colour of bauxites, which varies from white, cream, yellow, green, gray, pink, brown, red to black, and particle size of the iron minerals in the bauxites and is unrelaled to the alumina hydrate minerals. There is a fair scope for new entrepreneurs to enter in this field.

Iron Ore Mining - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Iron is an Anglo-Saxon Word : the symbol Fe, comes from latin ferrum. The use of iron has been known since the earliest times; it was prepared by the so-called bloomery hearth, or Catalan Forge. Iron ores were heated in a shallow trench with a large excess of wood charcoal, fanned by bellows. Lumps (blooms) of wrought iron were obtained, and were welded together by hammering. As technology advanced during the middle ages, the trench was replaced by small shaft furnace, and from this present day blast furnance has developed. Iron is the cheapest and most widely used metal. Its annual production exceed by for that of all other metals combined. It comprises approximately 93% of the tonnage of all the metals used. India is the only country in the world possessing huge recoverable reserve of iron ore to the tune of 13,400 million tons with average Fe content of 63%. Hence, the global steel industry is eyeing India in order to meet the iron ore requirements for steel production. New entrepreneurs venture in to this field will be successful.
