Mineral: Project Opportunities in West Bengal

PROFILE:

A mineral is a naturally occurring solid chemical substance formed through biogeochemical processes, having characteristic chemical composition, highly ordered atomic structure, and specific physical properties. India is one of the world's most naturally endowed lands. India is home to numerous minerals which benefit the country economically. The minerals produced in India constitute one-quarter of the world's most popular mineral resources.

RESOURCES:

West Bengal stands third in the country in terms of mineral production. The state contributes about one-fifth to the total production of minerals in the country. Coal constitutes 99% of the minerals extracted in West Bengal; fireclay, china clay, limestone, copper, iron, wolfram, manganese and dolomite are mined in small quantities. There are good possibilities of obtaining mineral oil and natural gas in the areas near the Bay of Bengal.

West Bengal is the third largest state for coal production, accounting for about half of India's total. Lignite mined in Darjeeling is used to make briquettes. West Bengal ranks next to Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in production of fireclay. China clay used in the pottery, paper, textile, rubber and paint industries are unearthed at Mohammad Bazar in Birbhum and Mejia in Bankura. Limestone which is used in cement industry is mined in Bankura, Purulia, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. There are copper mines in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Small quantities of low quality iron-ore are mined in Bardhaman, Purulia, Birbhum and Darjeeling. There are manganese in the Jhargram region of Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bardhaman. The state’s production of dolomite comes from the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Keeping pace with the liberalised Mineral Policy being adopted by the Government of India, Government of West Bengal has formulated its Mineral Policy in 2002. Among the basic objectives of the West Bengal Mineral Policy, 2002 following are worth mentioning:

1. To review the existing State monopolies over mineral exploration and wherever required, go in for selective de-reservation.

2. To invite private capital, resources and technology, both foreign and domestic, for better exploration and exploitation;

3. To promote necessary linkages for smooth and uninterrupted development of mineral based industries to meet the needs of the State.

4. To ensure proper vigilance and supervision of mining activities with particular emphasis on simplification of procedures and greater generation of revenues from mineral resources.

Iron and Steel: Project Opportunities in West Bengal

PROFILE:

India has one of the richest reserves of all the raw materials required for the industry, namely land, capital, cheap labour, iron ore, power, coal etc. Yet India is 5th in the world ranking for production of steel. Iron and steel is basis for laying the vibrant Indian industry. Production of steel has come to exist as an index of a country's potential, industrial and economic growth. The making of iron and steel had been known to the people of India since long. The iron pillar of Delhi is a proof of it and speaks of the quality of steel produced in this country in ancient times. The steel industry is often considered to be an indicator of economic progress, because of the critical role played by steel in infrastructural and overall economic development. The per capita usage of steel gives an indication of the technological advancement of a nation.

RESOURCES:

The growth of steel industry in the State is largely related to the proximity of raw materials, skilled manpower, port facilities and the vast market for steel products. Given these location advantages, large numbers of mini integrated steel plants have already been set up in the state manufacturing a wide range of products such as sponge irons, mild steels, iron pipes etc. The neighbouring Eastern States of India viz. Jharkhand, Orissa and Chattisgarh are endowed with huge iron ore reserves along with cooking coal and non-cooking coal. The establishment of Bengal Iron Works at Kulti in Burdwan district of West Bengal in 1870 where the first commercial blast furnace was set up in 1875 heralded the commencement of this industry in the State.

The easy availability of power, competitive rates of freight, close proximity to areas with natural resources relevant to the industry, and labour force traditionality skilled in operating iron and steel units are factors that have influenced the surge in investment in this sector.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Under the new industrial policy, iron and steel has been made one of the high priority industries. Price and distribution controls have been removed  as well as foreign direct investment up to 100% (under automatic route) has been permitted.  The Trade Policy has also been liberalized and import and export of iron and steel is freely allowed with no quantitative restrictions on import of iron and steel items. Tariffs on various items of iron and steel have drastically come down since 1991-92 levels and the government is committed to bring them down to the international levels.  With the abolishing of price regulation of iron and steel in 92, the steel prices are market determined. The policy devises a multi-pronged strategy to achieve these targets with following focus areas; removal of supply constraints especially availability  of critical inputs like iron ore; improve cost competitiveness by expanding and strengthening the infrastructure in roads, railways, ports and power; increase exports; meet the additional capital requirements by mobilizing financial resources; promote investments by removing  procedural delays. In addition the policy also addresses challenges arising out of environmental concerns, human resource requirements, R&D, volatile steel prices and the secondary sector.

Production of Hydraulic Hose. Industrial and Hydraulic Hoses Manufacturing Industry

Production of Hydraulic Hose. Industrial and Hydraulic Hoses Manufacturing Industry. Crimp Fittings for Rubber Hydraulic Hose. A hydraulic hose is specifically designed to convey hydraulic fluid to or among hydraulic components, valves, actuators, and tools. It is typically flexible, often reinforced, and usually constructed with several layers of reinforcement since hydraulic systems frequently operate at high or very high pressures. Hydraulic hose is used in a variety of industrial hydraulic systems. Dimensions, performance specifications, construction options, and features are important parameters to consider when searching for hydraulic hose. Important dimensions for the selection of hydraulic hose include the inside diameter, outside diameter, and minimum bend radius. Hydraulic hose sizes are denoted by the inside and outside diameter of the hose. Types of Hydraulic Hose Construction: Due to the variety of hydraulic hose applications and the range of chemicals and pressures they will be subjected to, there are likewise a number of hydraulic hose constructions. Reinforced: This type of hosing resembles the basic three-layer construction, but with extra buffers in the reinforcement layer, most often in the form of textile braid, wire braid, or wire helix material around the inner tube. Coiled: Coiled hoses are semi-rigid hoses designed for expansion and easy storing. Because the hose is coiled, it can stretch in such a way that does not put unnecessary pressure on the hose materials. Corrugated: Another method of increasing expansion and flexibility in a hose is to introduce corrugation. Corrugation manifests as small threads or folds in the material of the hose, somewhat like an accordion, that allow the hose to expand and compress without damaging the housing. Articulated: Articulated hoses are hoses built in sections, with rigid shafts connected by flexible joints. The articulation allows hoses to turn corners or swivel around other components. Multi-element: Hoses that involve multiple elements listed above are termed “multi-element hoses.” Features: Hydraulic hoses may incorporate different features based on construction or specific application needs. Lay-flat - Lay-flat hose is designed to default to a flat, collapsed (not rigid) structure when not filled with fluid. This feature makes hose easier to store, and more flexible and forgiving while in service. Anti-static - Hoses are conductive or semi-conductive to prevent the buildup of static electricity. Flame resistant - Hoses are constructed to maintain their integrity in the presence of flame or fire. Advantages: Hydraulic hoses can turn forces from a few ounces of pressure into hundreds of tons of output. Using hydraulic hoses, hydraulic machines can create very powerful low speed torque and manage speed and movement of machines with extreme accuracy. A single hydraulic pump or compressor can, through hydraulic hoses power many different machines and machine functions at widely varying power levels at the same time. Hydraulic powered machines can operate safely in areas where there are flammable vapors and electrical or electronic devices could set off explosions. Market Outlook The demand for hydraulic hoses is anticipated to grow in the coming years. ´In India, the potential of hydraulic hoses in Caterpillar construction and mining machines is from Rs. 80 crore to 100 crore per annum. India has the second largest consumer base in the world. Increased demand for goods has led to mechanization which has promoted the use of all types of machines including hydraulic machineries. Hydraulic machines have significant space in the Indian industry and reliance on these machines to transfer energy has promoted the increased use of hydraulic hoses. Automotive hose market was evaluated at USD ~ million in 2016. All major hose manufacturing companies have their sales operation in India including TI automotive, Manuli hydraulic, Eaton and others. The global hoses market is expected to grow at a substantial growth rate in the near future owing to the increased demand for hoses particularly from agricultural and industrial applications. In hoses are extensively used in gardens for watering gardens or lawns or convey water to sprinklers. Hoses are also used for firefighting applications for water delivery. In automotive applications hoses are used in lubrication, cooling and hydraulic applications. Also hoses are used to carry fuel. Hydraulic circuits are an important part of heavy machinery where most of the force applied is with the help of hydraulic pressure. Hoses can be made of plastic or rubbers. The demand for rubber hoses are anticipated to increase due to increase in industrial activity and the demand for plastic hoses are expected to grow on account of growing construction activities across the globe. The demand for hoses is expected to witness strong growth from countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, and Russia etc. in the next few years. The demand for hoses from Europe is also expected to be high on account of growing automotive demand in this region. The global hydraulic hose and fittings market will grow at a CAGR of nearly 5% during the forecast period. One of the primary drivers for this market’s growth is the modernization of agricultural equipment. Modernization helps in overcoming many key agriculture constraints like unskilled labor, limited availability of arable land, and scarcity of water resources. On the other hand, the mechanized agriculture includes replacing of all the traditional agriculture processes with the other agriculture machinery, which will, in turn, help increase productivity. Moreover, the rise in demand for the food products and growth in population has led the augmented adoption of modern agriculture machinery globally and mainly in countries like US, Australia, China, and India. The rise in the modernization of agriculture practices is the main reason for the development of the agriculture equipment and machinery industry, which will indirectly impact the growth of the hydraulic hose and fittings market in the coming years. The hydraulic hoses accounted for the highest market share and is expected to dominate the segment during the next four years. The rise in construction and agriculture industry is the key reason for the growth of the hydraulic hose in the market. On the other hand, the demand for the replacement of the hydraulic hose is also expected to assist the growth of the global hydraulic hose market segment. The global hydraulic rubber hose market, valued at US$ 697.8 Mn in 2013, is expected to see growth at a CAGR of 4.2% during the period from 2014 to 2022. The hydraulic rubber hoses are used to carry fluids within the hydraulic machinery. A variety of hoses differentiated by material, temperature range, pressure range, and weight are being used for applications across all major industries. Rubber hoses possess various properties such as shock and vibration resistance, sound absorption, rust resistance, high power load bearing capacity, and self-lubrication among others. Performance under extreme temperature and pressure conditions coupled with efficiency are the key requirements of an end-user while selecting a hydraulic rubber hose. The global hydraulic rubber hose market is segmented by application, by type, and by geographic regions. The majority of hydraulic rubber hose were used in construction machinery, industrial and material handling equipment, and agricultural machinery applications. The Future of Farming: Hydroponic Greenhouse Farming

The Future of Farming: Hydroponic Greenhouse Farming. Starting a Commercial Hydroponic Greenhouse. Profitable Hydroponic Production. The science of soil-less gardening is called hydroponics. It basically involves growing healthy plants without the use of a traditional soil medium by using a nutrient like a mineral rich water solution instead. A plant just needs select nutrients, some water, and sunlight to grow. Not only do plants grow without soil, they often grow a lot better with their roots in water instead. Hydroponics is a system of agriculture that utilizes nutrient-laden water rather than soil for plant nourishment. The re-use of nutrient water supplies makes process-induced eutrophication (excessive plant growth due to overabundant nutrients) and general pollution of land and water unlikely, since runoff in weather-independent facilities is not a concern. Aeroponic and hydroponic systems do not require pesticides, require less water and space than traditional agricultural systems, and may be stacked (if outfitted with led lighting) in order to limit space use (vertical farming). This makes them optimal for use in cities, where space is particularly limited and populations are high-self-sustaining city-based food systems mean a reduced strain on distant farms, the reduction of habitat intrusions, fewer food miles, and fewer carbon emissions. What are its Benefits? Hydroponic gardening is fast becoming a popular choice for many growers around the world due to its more sustainable approach to resource usage than the usual growing methods. Here are a few of its many benefits: • By providing constant and readily available nutrition, hydroponics allows plants to grow up to 50% faster than they would in soil. Also, fresh produce can be harvested from a hydroponic garden throughout the year. • Great for both the environment and the grown product, hydroponic gardening virtually eliminates the need for herbicides and pesticides compared to traditional soil gardening. • Any water that is used in hydroponic gardening stays in the system and can be reused, reducing the constant need for a fresh water supply! • Arable land is often in short supply and gardening space continues to decrease. A great option when you lack yard space or have a tiny balcony, hydroponics also lends itself really well to indoor gardening. Market Outlook The global hydroponics market is projected to reach USD 395.2 Million by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 16.8% from 2015 to 2020. A sub-segment of hydro-culture, hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Hydroponics method uses two main mediums to grow crops - solution culture and solid medium culture. This method of farming is a niche segment gaining popularity in urban, customized agriculture setup. Companies are mainly focusing on launching new products and facilities by investing in R&D activities. Production of Industrial Safety Leather Shoes. Safety Shoes Manufacturing Project

Production of Industrial Safety Leather Shoes. Safety Shoes Manufacturing Project. Safety Footwear Production Plant. Safety boots are vital for anyone working in an industrial environment. They provide protection from falling objects, which could crush your toes, and prevent injury if you accidentally step on something sharp. Safety shoes are required where the potential for serious injury to the foot may result from an employee's daily job duties. A pair of safety shoes (also known as safety boots) is personal protective equipment (PPE) for foot protection at workplaces. It prevents from getting foot injuries due to slippery surface, heavy falling or rolling objects, sharp piercing edges, pinch points, rotary machinery, hot objects, loops of ropes under tension, splinters, electricity, chemicals or even bad weather etc. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires the employers to ensure that the employees use protective footwear while working in the areas where there are dangers of foot injuries. Functions of Safety Shoes Foot injuries can be debilitating, resulting in time away from work or difficulty performing a job. Wearing safety shoes or boots can help prevent many foot injuries in the following ways. 1. PROTECT FROM FALLING & FLYING OBJECTS When workers carry heavy materials or work in dynamic environments where many people, machines and vehicles are operating at once, falling and flying objects are common hazards. Protective shoes like steel toe boots can effectively prevent crushing injuries to the feet. 2. PROTECT FROM PUNCTURES When workers could step on sharp objects or be struck by sharp objects from above, shoes with heavy-duty soles and thick materials surrounding the foot offer the best protection. At construction worksites, for example, many sharp objects could be in someone’s path. A soft-soled shoe might not provide enough protection. 3. PROTECT FROM CUTTING HAZARDS Machinery that is sharp or contains moving parts can pose cutting hazards. Workers in the logging industry, for example, face dangers from chainsaws. If a chainsaw were to come in contact with someone’s foot, the result could be catastrophic. Logging boots—which are required by OSHA under standard 29 CFR 1910.266(d)(1)(v)—made with cut-resistant material will protect those workers who use chainsaws. These boots are also waterproof or water repellant and support the ankles. 4. PROTECT FROM ELECTRICAL HAZARDS Electricity poses a variety of risks in the workplace. Workers could face potential electric shocks or accumulate static electricity, which can lead to electric sparks in certain environments. To reduce the chances of an electrical accident, non-conductive footwear made from leather, rubber or other materials that don’t conduct electricity can be worn. In locations where the build-up of static on the body poses a hazard, anti-static or conductive footwear can be used. These options reduce the amount of static that accumulates on the body, preventing static electric sparks. 5. PREVENT SLIPS, TRIPS & FALLS Slips, trips and falls can happen in any workplace and result in many accidents annually. Businesses can take steps such as implementing housekeeping measures and installing anti-slip floor tape to reduce the risks of these mishaps. Proper footwear can also provide additional protection against slips, trips and falls. Shoes with appropriate traction can help prevent falls on the same level in slippery environments. They can also prevent falls from ladders, which are all too common when people don’t wear shoes with proper treads. Footwear that fits well and feels comfortable can also improve balance, which will help prevent slips, trips and falls, too. 6. PREVENT FATIGUE For workers who stand all day, especially on hard surfaces like concrete, fatigue can be a real problem. Muscles in the feet as well as the legs, back and other parts of the body grow tired, and the situation can be worsened when employees don’t wear appropriate footwear. Shoes that provide adequate cushioning and arch support can make people more comfortable, which alleviates strain on muscles. This means employees will grow fatigued less quickly. Employees who are less fatigued will be more alert, so they will likely do their jobs more safely and more efficiently. Preventing muscle strain will also help protect against musculoskeletal disorders such as chronic lower back pain, too. 7. PREVENT BURNS Burns from fire can happen in the workplace, but so can burns from chemicals and even from common workplace materials like cement. Footwear made from durable materials can prevent burns from chemicals splashes, molten metal splashes and other dangerous substances that could injure the skin on the feet. 8. PROTECT FROM EXTREME WEATHER Cold weather can lead to injuries such as frost bite and hypothermia, and those dangers shouldn’t be overlooked in the workplace. People who work outside in the winter are at risk, as well as employees who work in wet or refrigerated environments. Furthermore, the cold can exacerbate some less known workplace injuries. For example, Raynaud’s Syndrome is a disease where the fingers can turn white from poor blood flow. This condition, related to vibration from power tool use, is made worse when employees are exposed to cold temperatures. In some cases, this disorder can impact the feet, too, so keeping the feet warm and comfortable in conjunction with other measures for keeping the body warm is important. Footwear for the workplace offers many kinds of protection for workers. For those reasons alone, it’s worth making a foot protection program part of workplace. Remember that in many work situations protective footwear is required. Few Indian Major Players are as under: • Bata India Ltd • Faizan Shoes Pvt. Ltd. • Florind Shoes Pvt. Production of Insulators (HT & LT)

An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely; very little electric current will flow through it under the influence of an electric field. This contrasts with other materials, semiconductors and conductors, which conduct electric current more easily. The property that distinguishes an insulator is its resistivity; insulators have higher resistivity than semiconductors or conductors. Insulators are used in electrical equipment to support and separate electrical conductors without allowing current through themselves. An insulating material used in bulk to wrap electrical cables or other equipment is called insulation. The term insulator is also used more specifically to refer to insulating supports used to attach electric power distribution or transmission lines to utility poles and transmission towers. They support the weight of the suspended wires without allowing the current to flow through the tower to ground. Few Indian Major Players are as under: • Aditya Birla Insulators • Spark Insulators Pvt Ltd • Prime Insulators Pvt. Ltd • Cji Porcelain Pvt Ltd • Shreeji Power & Insulators Pvt. The ingestion of iodine prevents iodine deficiency. Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Deficiency also causes thyroid gland problems, including "endemic goitre". In many countries, iodine deficiency is a major public health problem that can be cheaply addressed by purposely adding small amounts of iodine to the sodium chloride salt. Salt is existent in all animal and vegetable life and is coeval with life itself. It is a basic element in food of any living being. Salt as a chemical is of significant importance. Salt was the name originally given to the residue left by evaporation of sea water. Afterwards the name was employed to include all substances held in solution in sea water. Chemists ultimately extended the name to cover all combinations of an acid and a base. Sodium chloride (NaCl) now called common salt, is an example of the simplest type of chemical salt. Sodium chloride is an essential constituent of the body fluids and is responsible for a number of vital functions in the body. Few Indian Major Players are as under: Ankur Chemfood Ltd. G Das & Co.
