Nitrocellulose Lacquer

Nitrocellulose lacquer is a material which has many uses both inside and outside the home. Like any other lacquer, it can be used to finish wood products and keep painted surfaces shining, though there is much more to it than that. Nitrocellulose lacquer was initially marketed as a fast-drying alternative to wood treatments such as shellac and varnishes. It was also combined with pigment to produce one of the first spray-on paints. Nitrocellulose lacquer is made by mixing fast-drying solvents with wood and cotton pulp containing cellulose that has been broken down by nitric and sulfuric acid. Nitrocellulose is a highly inflammable compound produced by nitrating cellulose by exposure to nitric acid or other powerful nitrating agent. Nitrocellulose when utilized as a low-order explosive or propellant it is known as guncotton.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin". The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is applied as a free-flowing powder in a completely dry form. Think of it as paint with the solvent part removed. The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat which causes it to form a kind of “skin.” Usually powder is used to coat metals, but there are a number of potential applications. Powder coating is becoming one of the most wanted surface finishing techniques now a days. The definition of powder coating is the process of applying dry paint to a part. In comparison to normal wet painting such as house paints, the solids are in suspension in a liquid carrier, which must evaporate before the solid paint coating is produced. Powder coating is a term used to describe a particular finish or base. It starts out as a fine powder. This powder consists of finely ground particles of pigment and polymer resin. After application to a surface, the powder is chemically altered with heat to create a finishing film. Powder Coatings Market is expected to garner $12,332 billion by 2022, registering a CAGR of 6.3% during the forecast period 2014-2022. Powder coatings in appliances application segment occupied the major share in 2015 and is expected to maintain its lead throughout the analysis period. Powder coatings provides economical, long lasting, and durable quality finish for metal parts and products.

Clear Transparent Lacquer for Coating on Brass

The term lacquer is used for a number of hard and potentially shiny finishes applied to materials such as wood. In modern techniques, lacquer means a range of clear or colored wood finishes that dry by solvent evaporation or a curing process that produces a hard, durable finish. Lacquer forms a protective clear layer on metals and is particularly useful on brass, aluminum, silver and copper, which are often in the form of decorative items. The lacquer market continues to be in a transformative phase, as solvent-based lacquers give way to water-based variants. The shift has been induced by a range of factors, however, stringent regulations and carbon consciousness among end-users are the prominent factors. Although solvent-based lacquers still account for a significant revenue share of the market, demand for water-based lacquers is also growing at a steady pace. Lacquers continue to be the preferred finishes for woodworking owing to a bevy of advantages. Among the various types of lacquers available to end-users, demand for nitrocellulose continues to be the highest, on account of its competitive pricing and quick drying features. Nitrocellulose lacquers are ideally suited for production shops of all sizes, as they offer a uniform layer of film over the material. The fact that nitrocellulose lacquers are evaporative in nature provides for easy blending. Although nitrocellulose will continue to the highest selling lacquer type globally, its limitations are influencing end-users to opt for feasible alternatives. Notable is the problem of ‘crazing’ associated with the use of nitrocellulose. Global demand for lacquers is likely to reach roughly 7 million tons in 2018, as applications in furniture, automotive, and architectural industries create sustained growth opportunities. The shift from solvent-based to water-based lacquers will become more palpable in the next decade, as a combination of environmental compliance and end-user consciousness induces changes in manufacturing and uptake.

Plaster of Paris Emulsion

Paint is any pigmented liquid, liquefiable, or mastic composition that, after application to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect, color, or provide texture to objects. Paint can be made or purchased in many colors—and in many different types, such as watercolor or synthetic. Paint is typically stored, sold, and applied as a liquid, but most types dry into a solid. Water-based paints tend to be the easiest to clean up after use; the brushes and rollers can be cleaned with soap and water. Proper disposal of left over paint is a challenge. Sometimes it can be recycled: Old paint may be usable for a primer coat or an intermediate coat, and paints of similar chemistry can be mixed to make a larger amount of a uniform color.

Red Oxide Primer

A primer is a preparatory coating put on materials before painting. Priming ensures better adhesion of paint to the surface, increases paint durability, and provides additional protection for the material being painted. A primer designed for metal is still highly recommended if a part is to be exposed to moisture. Once water seeps through to the bare metal, oxidation will begin (plain steel will simply rust). Metal hydroxides/oxides do not provide a solid surface for the paint to adhere to, and paint will come off in large flakes. Using a primer will provide extra insurance against such a scenario. Primer is a term used to describe a number of substances that consist of a Red Oxide suspended in a liquid or paste vehicle such as oil or water. With a brush, a roller, or a spray gun, primer is applied in a thin coat to various surfaces such as wood, metal, or stone. Although it’s primary purpose is to protect the surface to which it is applied. Red oxide primer is a specially formulated coating used as a base coat for ferrous metals. Red-oxide primer serves a similar purpose to interior wall primers in that it prepares metal for a topcoat, but it also gives iron and steel surfaces a layer of protection. A primer is composed of Red Oxide, solvents, resins, and various additives. The pigments give the primer color; solvents make it easier to apply; resins help it dry; and additives serve as everything from fillers to anti fungicidal agents.
