Wire & Cable Projects

Wire and cables plays an important part in our surrounding. A cable is two or more wires running side by side and bonded, twisted or braided together to form a single assembly. In mechanics cables, otherwise known as wire ropes, are used for lifting, hauling and towing or conveying force through tension. In electrical engineering cables used to carry electric currents. An optical cable contains one or more optical fibers in a protective jacket that supports the fibers.

Whether it is steel ropes ,cables, springs or screws, the products of the wire, cable and wire –processing industry are practically everywhere. They may look unassuming, but they are indispensable when it comes to the transmission of electric power or electronic data, and they assure that mechanical systems function well. The technological and economic development of a society is closely connected with the wire and cable industry and its suppliers. Since basically all areas of life rely on wire and the products that are manufactured from wire, and while their property potential is seemingly not yet exhausted, the wire, cable and wire processing industry is constantly faced with new challenges. In order to meeting these challenges it require machinery, tooling, accessories, ancillary equipment and services that are as efficient as possible in their utilization of energy and raw materials, and which produce as little waste as possible during startup and production.

Wires and cables sector basically consists of two areas: power and telecommunication. Power cables are PVC or PE clad, while the cables for telecommunication sector are based on PE (Polyethylene). Power cables are of 3 types depending on the intensity of power. Low-tension sector requires cables upto 1.1 KV and predominantly uses PVC insulation and jacketing. The medium tension power cables between 1.1 KV and 11 KV are based on PE as well as PVC. The high tension sector beyond 11 KV uses PE only. The low tension cables are used for tertiary distribution of power mainly from substations to buildings. Housing sector requires many other products for myriad applications. The medium tension cables generally use crosslinkable PE compounds while the high-tension cables use continuous vulcanization cables made from PE (LDPE). Electrical power cables used for transmission and distribution purposes consist of conductors stranded from plain high conductivity annealed copper wires insulated with oil impregnated paper tapes. Aluminium conductors have progressively come into use.

The market is divided into different segments in terms of product variation. The basic divi-sion is between cables and conductors. Cables are either power cables or control cables. Power cables supply energy at voltages upto 230 KV. Control cables are low voltage cables (upto 0.6 KV) used to transmit control signals in switch boards. The conducting material can be copper or aluminium with insulating material, PVC, XLPE, elastomers or paper. The cable market is segmented by the combination of material used to form the conductor, the insulator, sheathing and armouring.

Power cable industry in India is eyeing an estimated Rs 50 billion market to unfold. About 78,000 MW of power generation capacity and 60,000 circuit km of transmission network are projected to be added by 2012 according to the Eleventh Five Year Plan. Capex required for every MW of power generating capacity is about Rs 40 million. Expenditure required in the Eleventh Five Year Plan for power generation has been estimated at Rs 270 billion, besides Rs 69.5 billion for power transmission. Demand for cables should roughly be of the order of 3.5% of the investment in power generation and 2% for power transmission.

The expansion in output in the later years was basically an outcome of a spurt in industrial demand. High and low demand rates have characterised the industry for quite some time. During 2000-01 the production has been estimated at 30,000 km, about 18% lower than in the preceding year at 36,500 km. The 2000-01 level was only as high as that in 1993-94. The year 2003-04 witnessed a boom period with a very high growth rate. The demand was projected to grow from about 32,000 km in 2003-04, 38,000 km in 2006-07 and to 45,000 km in 2009-10.

The Indian power cable industry has about a dozen producers in the organised sector, claiming more than two-thirds share of the market. The unorganised sector is constituted of a few small units. The divergence in the two segments goes beyond their unit sizes. The two sectors exhibit significant differences in quality and the capacities. While the organised sector has been manu-facturing high voltage and speciality cables, the unorganised sector limits itself to the relatively low voltage market. The organised segment caters also to the industrial market.

The State Electricity Boards remain the major buyers for power cables. Small buyers of power cables also include companies having their own power distribution within plant limits. Conforming to their need-patterns, they require low tension PVC and medium tension XLPE cables. It is obvious that the client profile is changing from what it was. The thrust has slowly shifted to private sector and exports.

Private power generation companies like BSES, with expansion plans underway, are generating significant demand. Nonetheless, for the time being the State Electricity Boards continue to be the big customers. The major players in the organised industry are: Cable Corporation of India, Universal Cables, Fort Gloster, Industrial Cables, Uniflex Cables, RPG Cables, Finolex Cables, Paramount and Hindustan Vidyut Products.

Moreover, the global renewable energy industry is very well suitable for a boost of the cable industry. The upcoming challenges will be offshore installations with special tower cables in the renewable energy sector in the coming years.

The Wire Drawing Process The process itself is actually quite simple. To begin the wire drawing process, a spool of wire is placed at beginning of the machine on a spool. In order to feed it through the machine, the end of wire must be cut or flattened. It is fed through the machine and through a series of dies to achieve its final cross sectional area. The end of the machine usually has a spool or coiler so the finished product is a coil of wire at the desired cross sectional area. The end process may also be a barrel packer where a barrel is placed and the coiled wire is spooled directly into the barrel using a turntable. It is vitally important the temperature of the machinery does not get too hot (primarily caused by the energy released while deforming of the metal) and the wire has a constant tension and speed as it moves through the series of dies. Historically this was achieved solely by mechanical means. However, DC drives began to be used to operate the motors at certain levels depending on the metal and cross section required. As technology improved, software was added for winder applications which kept the material moving at the proper speed and tension to ensure a good product. This removed some of the mechanics and transferred it to electronic technology. Manufacturing of ABC (Aerial Bundled Cable) Conductors

Manufacturing of ABC (Aerial Bundled Cable) Conductors. Investment Opportunities in Overhead Power Distribution Sector. Aerial bundled conductors or simply ABC are overhead power lines using several insulated phase conductors bundled tightly together, usually with a bare neutral conductor. Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) is an innovative concept for Over Head (OH) power distribution. This variation of overhead power lines utilizes the same principles as bundled conductors, except that they are closer together to the point of touching but each conductor is surrounded by an insulating layer (except for the neutral line). Aerial Bundled Conductor cables can be used to replace bare conductor cables in overhead distribution systems. It is ideal for use in urban areas with congested power distribution and narrow lanes and by-lanes. The latest systems are used in the construction of ABC cables and intensive quality testing is done to ensure safety and reliability. Type of Aerial Bundled Conductor:- ? Above 1kv ? 1-15kv ? Above 15kv Advantages:- ? Relative immunity to short circuits caused by external forces (wind, fallen branches), unless they abrade the insulation. ? Can stand in close proximity to trees/buildings and will not generate sparks if touched. ? Little to no tree trimming necessary ? Simpler installation, as crossbars and insulators are not required. ? Ease of erection and stringing, less labor intensive, less construction resources needed. ? More aesthetically appealing. ? At junction poles, insulating bridging wires are needed to connect non-insulated wires at either side. ABC can dispense with one of these splices. ? Less risk of a neutral-only break from tree or vehicle damage, increasing safety with TNC-s systems. ? Significantly improved safety for linespersons, particularly when working on live conductors. ? Electricity theft is made harder, and more obvious to detect. ? Less required maintenance and necessary inspections of lines. ? Improved reliability in comparison with both bare conductor overhead systems and underground systems. Insulated conductors prevent accidental contact and supply can be maintained temporarily in the event of a suspension system collapse. Related Projects: - Wire & Cable Projects Market Outlook In the field of product application, environmental protection has become the common external pressure and development trend faced by cable manufacturers all over the world in recent years. The United States, Japan and Europe are in the leading position and development and manufacture of environmental-friendly cables in the world, and the production technology is relatively mature. By the European Union requires that harmful substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated diphenyl ethers and polybrominated biphenyls be prohibited from being used in new electronic and electrical equipment put on the market. The worldwide Aerial Bundled Cable market size (value, capacity, production and consumption) in key regions like United States, Europe, Asia Pacific (China, Japan) and other regions. Aerial Bundled Cables are overhead power lines using several insulated phase conductors bundled tightly together, usually with a bare neutral conductor. Cables & Conductors are one of the essential components required for the development and strengthening of any country’s T&D network. The cables and conductors market in India has grown at a significant rate in the past few years on the back of investments in the power and infrastructure sectors. The current manufacturing base is well established with a large number of organized players. As of today, due to growing emphasis on developing a robust T&D network in the country to meet the rising demand for reliable power, a number of government initiatives and programmers have been undertaken that have helped create a positive market for cables and conductors in the country. As per various estimates, it is expected that the industry which has been growing at the rate of around 15 percent currently will start growing at the CAGR of over 20 percent over the next five years. Though increasing industrialization and growing population requirement for reliable and efficient power supply have kept demand high for cables and conductors. Going forward, looking the investments infused in the power and infrastructure sectors by the government and various initiatives undertaken, this demand trend is expected to continue for the industry in the future as well. The world's market value of cables has reached around $181.3 billion in 2018 which increased by 4%. It is projected to reach about $210.47 Billion in 2021, at a CAGR of 4.5-5 percent, from 2018 to 2021. Increasing demand for electricity in the emerging and developed countries, backed by increasing investment in infrastructure, is expected to drive the cables market globally. However, slowdown of economy and regulatory policies for interconnection arrangements have been hindering the market growth. Urbanization is one of the major reasons for the overall growth of the cables market. The need for power grid interconnections in densely populated areas is creating a demand for submarine and underground cables. The underground cables reduce space required and offer reliable transmission of electricity. Environmental regulations that observe the impact of electrical cables on the environment, the safety of electrical installations, implications for the health of the materials used for cable manufacturing have led to various innovation and new product development. These regulations have encouraged the introduction of new products such as halogen-free flame retardant compounds and implement new processes with low energy consumption and efficient use of raw materials. Market & Technology:- Overall, the cables and conductors industry has grown significantly in the past few years with investments infused in the power and infrastructure sectors by the government. While the cable segment witnessed a positive growth, the conductor segment experienced sluggish demand last year. Across cable sub-categories, the power cables segment registered a growth of 5.2 percent in 2016-17, while the control cables segment saw a decline of 3.4 percent. However, the first half of 2017-18 saw a reversal of trends wherein the high voltage power cable growth tumbled by 7 percent and the control cable segment grew by 2.9 percent. The cable segment is the shift towards high voltage transmission lines. This demand is essentially driven by the creation of high capacity long distance corridors to deliver electricity to high demand regions and the development of green energy corridors for integrating the increasing share of renewable energy into the grid. Further, underground cabling is gaining increased acceptance among state and central transmission utilities as it provides greater safety (against electrocution) as compared to overhead cables. On the technology front, the industry is witnessing a number of new technology being introduced to enable utilities to augment their capacities without encountering the issues of right-of-way (Row) clearances. Further, due to the risks associated with bare overhead cables, covered cables have been gaining importance in the market. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), high-density polyethylene, aerial bunched cables and spacer cable systems are some of the most commonly used covered cables. In addition, an emerging technology trend of high-temperature low sag (HTLS) conductors is witnessing a greater adoption by the utilities. These conductors not only enhanced the operational efficiency but can also be used for the purpose of reconductoring the existing lines that enable utilities to transmit a higher quantum of power through existing corridors and can significantly scale down losses as well as instances of power outages. Further, to increase the current carrying capacity and scale down the transmission losses, utilities are turning to high-temperature superconductors (HTS) that have 5 to 10 times the current carrying capacity as compared to conventional conductors. Gas-insulated lines (GILs) that can be installed under the ground as well as in tunnels and trenches are today a well-accepted technology trend in the overseas market. Due resistive losses of GILs being lower than overhead lines and other types of underground cables, they offer greater reliability with no risk of fire. This technology can serve as a viable alternative to overhead lines where Row is not available for the transmission of electricity. However, it is still waiting to see a widespread adoption in the domestic market. Applications: ? Power System ? Industrial Use ? Commercial Use ? Residential Use Medium voltage Aerial bundled cables are mainly used for secondary overhead lines on poles or as feeders to residential premises. Cable market by application is categorized into Internet data transfer, video distribution and radio frequency transfer. Data is transferred at high speed over internet using coaxial cables. This data transferred over internet includes applications, videos, audio, documents, etc. Many high speed fiber internet connections are also using coaxial technology. These coaxial cables are also widely used in television cable industry and do have wide application in radio frequency transfer. The absence of interference in coaxial cable is what makes it one of the most reliable choices for transmitting radio signals. Aerial Bundled Conductor cables can be used to replace bare conductor cables in overhead distribution systems. It is ideal for use in urban areas with congested power distribution and narrow lanes and by-lanes. The flexible system is much easier than conventional overhead power lines to re-route when demanded by changes in urban development plans. We can provide you the best aerial bundled cable price, you can contact us. It provides a higher level of safety in difficult terrain including forest areas, coastal areas, and hilly areas. In climates with a high level of moisture accelerated tree growth becomes a significant problem increasing the risk of bush fires. If aerial bundled conductors are touched by tree branches they will not arc over. There are many types of ABC cable, but their application is the same. Catenary Wires and Conductors used in Railway Electrification

Catenary wire (also called a messenger wire) has closely spaced drops which support the actual contact wire. The messenger (or catenary) wire needs to be both strong and have good conductivity. They used multi-strand wires (or cables) with 19 strands in each cable (or wire). Copper, aluminium, and/or steel were used for the strands. All the 19 strands could be of the same metal or some strands could be of steel for strength with the remaining strands of aluminium or copper for conductivity. Another type looked like it had all copper wires but inside each wire was a steel core for strength. The steel strands were galvanized but for better corrosion protection they could be coated with an anti-corrosion substance. The Catenary wire comprises 19 strands of cadmium copper, each strand of 2.10 mm dia, with overall dia of 10.5 mm having about 80% conductivity and 65 sq. mm cross-sectional area. The contact wire is a solid hard drawn grooved electrolytic. Copper of 12.24 mm dia and 107 sq. mm cross-sectional area. The total current carrying capacity of both wires is 600 Amps. The condemning size of contact wire is 8.25 mm. The wires and cable industry in India has come a long way, growing from being a small industry to a very large one, over the past decade. With the segment comprising nearly 40 per cent of the electrical industry in India, the increasing demand for power, light and communication has kept demand for wires and cables high. Growing at a CAGR of 15 per cent, boosted by momentum in the power and infrastructure segments. The present estimated per capita consumption is only about 0.5 kg. As GoI is focusing on ´Make in India´, the industry can grow at similar rate for the next five years. The India structured cabling market was valued at $419.4 million in 2017 and is forecasted to witness a CAGR of 12.9% during 2018–2023. Growing demand for copper cables, surging data center market, increasing number of product launch activities, and rising demand for better bandwidth are supporting the structured cabling market growth in India. Growing domestic market, priority for infrastructure development, improved life-style and newer opportunities, have propelled the Indian copper industry, specially for wires and cables. The growing trend in building, construction and automobile sectors is expected to keep demand of copper high. Understanding the copper technology involved in copper production, exploration, mining, and the uses of copper, as well as the global industry structure would impact copper mining, the environment, the various markets of copper, etc. The industry is affected by the price trends of copper, market performance, import/export scenario, the physical market trends, demand for copper, and of course, a market forecast. According to their Indian Electrical Equipment Industry Mission Plan 2012-2022, the government has planned to make India the country of choice for the production of electrical equipment and reach an output of $100 billion by balancing exports and imports. One of the main factors to boost the growth of the market is the rapidly expanding rate of high-speed rail network services. This is taking place in most of the regions so as to achieve faster means of transport. Apart from that the growing need for rail transport facilities that are both technologically advanced and energy efficient is also boosting the growth of the overhead catenary system market in the future years. However, factors like the high investment of capital and their high maintenance costs of the overhead catenary systems may pose a threat to the overall growth of the market in the years to come. Adding to that is the growth of the third rail system happening in urban rail transits which is also another cause of concerns for players on this market. Related Books:- Handbook on Steel Bars, Wires, Tubes, Pipes, S.S. Sheets Production with Ferrous Metal Casting & Processing The overhead catenary system market for electrified track length in operation is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.55% during the forecast period, from an estimated market size of 232.6 thousand miles in 2018 to 326.7 thousand miles by 2025. The simple catenary type segment is expected to be the largest growing segment of the overhead catenary system market, by catenary type. Presently, the largest market share of the operational train fleet is functioning over the simple type catenary system. This scenario is likely to remain the same during the forecast period. This is attributed to the fact that the majority of the proposed rail projects worldwide are expected to be operated on the simple catenary system because of fewer complications and an easy built-up structure.
