Textile, Apparel, Clothing, Denim wear, Innerwear, Lingerie, Hosiery, Denim Jeans, Readymade Garments and Under Garments Industry.

The Readymade garments industry is increasing day by day due to changes of fashion in day to day life. The readymade garment industry in India owes its existence to the emergence of a highly profitable market for exports. Ready-made garments account for approximately 45% of India's total textile exports. They represent value added and less import sub sector. In the recent years, however, the domestic demand has also been growing rapidly.

The changes in the life style since the onset of the liberalization era, and given the base of the industry for the overseas market, Indian garments industry have taken big strides. The entry of the Indian and global fashion designers has stimulated the market further. With the rising tailoring costs and relatively low prices of standardized products, the Indian consumer is increasingly taking to readymades. In the past, the readymades market was confined mainly to baby dresses and small manila-shirts and dress shirts.  Now it has extended to trousers, suits, and lady dresses and, of course, fashion garments for men and women.  Readymades of specific brands have become not only a status symbol; these have brought a more contemporary style in offices as much as in social circles. Franchised boutiques have been established as tools for brand and image building.

The garments  industry categorizes  itself  into  many  segments: formal wear and casual wear; women's dresses, men's and kids wear; suits, trousers, jackets and blazers; shirts, sportswear, tee-shirts, denims, neckwear; undergarments (men's and women's),  knitwear, saris. Denim is graded in clearly defined weight classes.  Lightweight denim (cambray) is used in shirts and blouses.  Heavy classical denim is used to make trousers, jackets or coats.

The market segmentation by price differentials is notable: high-end for the affluent, medium priced for the core and high middle classes, low-end for the low and core middle class. Of the entire industry volume of about 5 million tonnes, polyester and polyester filament yarn account for about 1.7 million tonnes, and acrylic, nylon, and viscose taken together for 300,000 tonnes. The balance is represented by cotton textiles.

The Indian branded garment market, which is estimated at over Rs 185 billion, accounts for 25% of the Rs 745 billion readymades market. Following the entry of several new brands, the branded segment has grown at 25% annually. This represents a shift from unbranded to the branded segment. The market for men’s innerwear is estimated to be worth Rs 25 billion, with branded market valued at Rs 7 billion.

The Lead Players & Alliances in this sector globally includes Maxwell Apparel Ind., Lovable, USA, Page Apparel Mfg., Jokey Intl., USA, etc. Some of the major leading brands include Arrow, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Louis Phillipe, Park Avenue, Zodiac, Lee, Excalibur, Flying Machine, Ruf n Tuf, Newport, Peter England, Louis Straus, Stencil, Wrangler, Rod Lever, etc.

The textile industry occupies a leading position in the hierarchy of the Indian manufacturing industry. It has witnessed several new directions in the era of liberalization. While textile exports are increasing and India has become the largest exporter in world trade in cotton yarn and is an important player of readymade garments, country’s international textile trade constitutes a mere 3% of the total world textile trade.  Several mills have opted for modernization and expansion and are going in for export-oriented units (EOUs) focused on   production of cotton yarn. It has passed through cyclical oscillations and at present, it is witnessing a recovery after a downturn.

A major improvement in weaving efficiency has been brought about by developments in spinning technology which has enabled production of yarn of higher quality. A major share of the looms installed in composite mills is now of automatic looms. However, autolooms installed in the decentralized and powerloom segments are small in number. Shuttleless technology, direct wrapping, use of splicing technology, automatic doffing and knotting systems, help to increase mill productivity. Speed of the auto looms or shuttleless looms is 60% higher than that of non-autolooms.

The textile industry has managed to modernise the spinning sector but there is a long way to go on the weaving front. India's power loom sector has over 10,000 shuttleless looms as compared to 150,000 in China.  The lead players in the Indian industry include Bombay Dyeing, Arvind Mills, Century Textiles, Coats Viyella, Morarji Gokuldas Spinning, JCT, Hindustan Spinning, etc.

Non-Formaldehyde Dye Fixing Agent for Reactive Dyes

Dyes and pigments are the most important colorants used to add a color or to change the color of something. They are widely used in the textile, pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, plastics, paint, ink, photographic and paper industries. Dyes are colored substances which are soluble or go into solution during the application process and impart color by selective absorption of light. Dye Fixing Agent (DFA) is a cationic dye-fixing agent, which improves the wet fastness of dyed or printed cotton cellulosic good on which direct reactive or after copper able dyes are used.DFA is stable in hard water. Dilute acids, and low electrolyte concentrations. It is precipitated in presence of strong alkalies and salts of mineral acids. Weakly acidic solution improves the stability of DFA towards salts. DFA is not compatible with anionic products but cationic softness can be used the same bath. Dye fixing agent prevents the fabrics from color fading by washing, etc, by bonding chemically with unfixed excess dye on the fabrics. The imperative need of textiles in every aspect of life has been the premise for the growth of the global textile chemicals market.Coloring of fabrics, yarns and fibers is a crucial process in textile manufacturing. Socks Knitting

Socks are widely used hosiery items in India. Men, women, kids and even infants use socks for the protection purpose. Sometimes speciality socks are used by athletics and sportsman. Socks are also a protecting apparel in some industry operation for their workers. Generally, socks come with a wide variety of design, pattern, color and size. Socks of various types and designs can be produced by using cotton yarn, acrylic yarn, and polyester yarn, nylon yarn of different counts, quality and shades. Socks are commodity products. However, in recent years with the advent of luxury socks and socks for specific application, socks have transformed from commodity items to fashion pieces. Owing to the transformation of this traditional item into a luxury product, the growth of the socks market outpaces the overall growth of the apparel industry. Almost 50% of the men use socks every day. Hence, the robust growth of the men's apparel industry is expected to be the major driver of the socks industry during the forecast period. The global socks market was valued at US$42.07 bn in 2016 and it is expected to expand at a CAGR of 6.7% from 2017 to 2025. Although an integral part of the apparel industry, the socks market holds a negligible part in the market dynamics of the apparel industry. However, taking the market growth rate into consideration, the socks market is projected to experience robust growth during the forecast period in contrast to the apparel industry in general. The rising demand for socks is primarily driven by improving fashion trends and the growing retail sector.

Terry Towels

A terry towel is described as a textile product which is made with loop pile on one or both sides generally covering the entire surface or forming strips, checks, or other patterns (with end hems or fringes and side hems or selvages). The name “terry” comes from the French word “tirer” which means to pull out, referring to the pile loops which were pulled out by hand to make absorbent traditional Turkish toweling. Latin “vellus”, meaning hair, has the derivation “velour”, which is the toweling with cut loops. Terry towels are often very complex with yarns of different types and colors, in combination with various loop pile and flat structures. Towels are subject to changing fashions, and the market is constantly demanding new designs with improved fabric characteristics important to the consumer such as softness and absorbency. In satisfying these requirements, the content and structure of terry towels are critical decisions determining the resulting quality. Due to its super-absorbent nature, Terry woven fabrics are typically used to make bathrobes and towels for the bathroom, beach and kitchen. India’s YTD market share in cotton sheets and terry towels to the US increased (in US dollar terms), driven by volumes: India’s YTD exports of cotton sheets to the US (in US dollar terms) increased 3.9 per cent YoY (vs. a 0.3 per cent decline in world cotton sheet exports to the US), led by a 2.6 per cent rise in volumes and a 1.3 per cent increase in realisations. India’s YTD exports of terry towels to the US increased 10.1 per cent YoY (vs. a 7.6 per cent rise in world terry towel exports to the US), driven by a significant 15.5 per cent YoY increase in volumes.

Women's Lingerie-Ladies Undergarments (Bra & Panties)

Hosiery industry is an ancient industry in the field of textile industry having very good potential in domestic market and also in the export market. There is increasing market demand for hosiery undergarments for its various advantages. Cotton undergarments are widely used by all classes of people because of its good absorbency, cheaper prices and ready availability. These foundation garments are used by the people throughout the year under different climatic conditions. It is presumed that there will be no problem in marketing of knitted undergarments of good quality. Ladies innerwear (Bra and panties) is the highest growing apparel item across all income groups and exclusive boutiques have popped up in all places. Nothing cramps the style faster than ill-fitting and uncomfortable undergarments. Thus, innerwear are not only made attractive, but also comfortable and practical. Top stylists unchain their creativity by inventing fabulous new forms and materials which make ladies innerwear even more sexy, eccentric and wild, without leaving out elegance. There has been an increase in demand for innovative, comfort-oriented undergarments and lately, many women are forgoing those fussy lingerie designs for simple, uncomplicated ladies undergarments. In addition to keeping outer garments from soiling, ladies innerwear are worn for a variety of reasons: warmth, comfort and hygiene being the most common. Market Outlook The Innerwear Category is one of the high growth categories in the apparel market and promises growth and innovation. The higher income, along with higher discretionary spending, growing fashion orientation of consumers and product innovations by the innerwear market have turned innerwear from a traditionally utilitarian item to an essential fashion requirement. The current size of the Indian innerwear market is Rs. 15,870 crores ($2.9 billion). The category is also growing at an impressive CAGR of 12 per cent and is expected to reach Rs. 27,900 crores ($5.1 billion) by 2017. The womens innerwear market, which is driven by value-added innerwear products, contributes around 60 per cent to the market. The women’s innerwear market worth Rs. 9,540 crores ($1.7 billion) is one of the fastest growing categories within women’s apparel. This category is growing at a CAGR of 14 per cent, and is expected to reach Rs. 18,380 crores ($3.4 billion) by 2017. The lingerie market in India can be classified into super-premium, premium, mid-market and economy and mass market segments. A major share of the lingerie market is held by the mid-market and economy segments, in terms of both value and volume. The super-premium and premium segments are relatively smaller, but fast-growing segments. In the present scenario, the premium and super premium segments of the lingerie industry are advancing following a consumer shift from economy and mid-market segment to the premium segment. 90% of lingerie in India are sold in mom and pop stores where the experience is very poor because of no trial room, no female staff, stocking capacity is very low, no guidance on size etc. Here, interestingly selling lingerie online is not difficult because the product is seen as utility product in India. According to a research report, in volume terms, the women’s lingerie segment holds a 52 per cent share of the total innerwear market in India. In value terms, the women’s lingerie segment holds a 66 per cent share of the total innerwear market, thereby enjoying a higher Average Selling Price (ASP) as compared to the men’s innerwear market. India's lingerie market is currently valued at $3 billion. A mere 1% of it is online. In the next few years the market value is projected to jump to $5 billion. While physical stores obviously ring in the bulk of the sales, the unavailability of sizes, lack of privacy and shortage of trained personnel has paved the way for online lingerie portals.
