Projects for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). Profitable Manufacturing Business Ideas to Start. Small Scale Industry. Business Ideas To Make Money.

Gone are the days when every graduate from a university or college was sure of getting employment. Rates of unemployment rates are on the rise in most countries across the globe. If you are still looking for a white-color job, you had better think twice.

As the world population grows at an exponential rate, the demand for goods and services grows too. There will hardly come a time when there will be more than enough food for the world market. Neither will there be a time when everyone will have enough clothes that he will not need to buy anymore.

There will always be diseases and sicknesses. I do not think there will ever come a time when there will be no more need to manufacture or sell drugs.

Self-employment allows you to put your skills and knowledge into more profitable business ideas to earn a decent living.

In this article, I will show how you can start your own small manufacturing business. Here are the topics I will cover in this article.

  • How to start a profitable manufacturing business
  • How to build a small scale industry business plan
  • Project report on small scale industries
  • List of business ideas to make money

How to Start a Profitable Manufacturing Business?

Whenever you think of starting a business, the first thing that often comes to your mind is to start a merchant shop or store. Look around your neighborhood; you will notice there are more than enough shopping malls and retail shops.

Probably, it is time you thought of starting a small manufacturing business. You might think this is beyond your financial ability, but it is not. There are many small manufacturing ideas you can start with minimal input and grow it into the list of top manufacturing companies.

Here are some tips that will be helpful if you are keen on starting a manufacturing business.

1. Do a Market Survey to understand the Current Industry Trends

You need to identify the top manufacturing companies and the gaps either in manufacturing or in the market. The market review helps you identify the ideal, most profitable manufacturing business to start.

2. Identify your ideal Business Site

Ask yourself:

  • Where to set up your manufacturing plant.
  • Where you intend to sell your manufactured products.

3. Make a Management Plan

Small newly established manufacturing companies may not have the luxury to hire personnel in these positions. It would help if you had an alternative plan for these services.

4. Start with the Minimal Investment

You do not need a considerable sum of money to start. Lease some equipment and machinery instead of buying. Alternatively, you might buy older machines to begin with.

5. Work with Existing Manufacturers

You can negotiate for a partnership with the fastest-growing manufacturing companies. They help you create your brand and penetrate the market.

How to Build a Small-Scale Industry Business Plan?

If you understand what a business plan entails, it becomes easier for you to make one. You may need to consider the following ideas when building a manufacturing business plan.

1. Convert your small manufacturing business idea into a business concept. Know what you want to manufacture and how you will build it. It would help if you also considered the market potential for your industry.

2. Carry out a market survey to get a glimpse of market dynamics. This information helps you when you sit down to write a business plan. Identify the level of competition and the possible entry points in the market.

3. Review the financial implications of your investment. Make some cash flow projections and an overview of your balance sheet. You also need some estimate on when the industry is likely to break even.

Project Report on Small-Scale Industries

If at all, you are contemplating a small-scale industry, one of the necessary documents you need is a project report.

What is a project report?

An industry analysis project report is a fundamental analysis of a particular industry and its key players. A project report is usually part of a small-scale industry business plan.

Does a Small-Scale Industry need a Project Report?

The answer to this question is an emphatic yes. Your small-scale industry will be venturing into a business niche that others have entered before. It is a project report that will guide you in developing strategies on how to become the best small manufacturing business in an already competitive market.

Key components of a project report on small-scale industries

1. Description of the Industry

This should include the history, size, products, and geographical limitations of the industry. It also should feature the present platers in your niche and the gaps in the market.

2. Market analysis

Look at the current industry behavior in terms of productivity, technologies, and drivers of present and future competition.

3. Consumer demographics

To become the best manufacturing business, you need to find favor with your clients. Therefore, it is essential to understand your potential customers regarding their age, socioeconomic status, and purchasing behavior.

4. Future strategies

Lastly, a project report outlines future strategies to ensure the business's survival amid both expected and unexpected challenges.

List of Business Ideas to Make Money

You might have a plan to start your own small-scale business, but you have no idea what type of business to do. You can find numerous internet sites with a list of profitable manufacturing business ideas. There is, however, no single business idea that is fit-for-all.

In the next few paragraphs, I will show you how to develop your list of manufacturing business ideas that can work for you.

Step 1: Review your strong points

There are things you are strong in as well as things in which you are weak. You can either produce or sell a product or a service that works well with your strong points and has good returns.

Step 2: Choose between Products and Services

If you prefer products to services, you again need to decide whether you want to start a manufacturing firm or a product retail firm. You will need to consider financial implications, human resource requirements, and market dynamics on deciding between product and service industries.

Step 3: Find a Gap

Do some industry analysis and identify a need in the industry that can serve as a doorway for entry. An example of a gap could be consumer dissatisfaction, an imbalance between demand and supply, or unavailability of a product or service in the market.

Step 4: Focus on the Future

Look at the current market trends and make predictions of future dynamics. Develop strategies that will sustain you over the next several decades.

Biodegradable Disposable Cups and Plates using Sugarcane Bagasse

Agricultural wastes constitute one of the main alternative raw materials for the pulp and paper industry. Wheat straw, bagasse, reed, and rice straw as a one of the important non-wood fibers sources for pulping and paper making. Waste disposal is one of the most important problems facing anyone who wants to live an eco-friendly lifestyle. So many of the things we use every day get tossed in the trash and end up buried at the bottom of a landfill or down cycled into less useful products. Bagasse is commonly used as a substitute for wood in many tropical and subtropical countries for the production of pulp, paper and board, such as India, China, Colombia, Iran, Thailand and Argentina. It produces pulp with physical properties that are well suited for generic printing and writing papers as well as tissue products but it is also widely used for boxes and newspaper production. Due to the recent change in the life style of urban class the demand for disposable cups is increasing at a rapid rate. Apart from being used at home, they also come in handy during parties, picnics and other functions and get-togethers. Plastic disposable cups are also used by Ice-cream industry, hotels, restaurants, canteens etc. but the major customer of disposable cups is ice-cream industry and they have started using plastic cups instead of paper ones that were being used earlier.

Perfumery Compounds Manufacturing and Formulation

Perfumery Compounds Manufacturing and Formulation. Agarbatti Perfumery Compounds. Fragrance Oil. A perfume may be defined as any mixture of pleasantly odorous substances. Originally all the products used in perfumery were of natural origin. The finest modern perfumes are neither wholly synthetic nor yet completely natural. The demand is increasing day by day due to increase in the standard of living. The demand will further increase as there is good export potential as well local consumption. Perfumes occupy an important place in modern life style. Apart from cosmetic and toiletry products perfumes are used in many products to mask odor and improve appeal. A perfumery compound is not a single material of clearly defined properties, but rather a mixture of individual chemicals, each behaving according to its own unique attributes. Characterizing these chemicals separately, and then combining their effects, allows the behavior of the complete perfume composition in diverse media to be understood. Important properties of fragrance chemicals include volatility, polarity, surface activity and stability. Considering the fact that perfume raw materials are themselves quite often complex mixtures of synthetic or natural (e.g. essential oils) organic compounds, the determination of the composition of an unknown perfume, the so called perfume-formulation process, is not an easy task. Requirements of Perfumery compounds: If a compound is to serve as a synthetic perfumery compound it has to comply with three essential requirements and failure of any of these requirements will prevent it being a useful synthetic perfumery compound. • One requirement is that the compound has, at low concentrations, a pleasant odour and can be blended with other perfumery compounds to give pleasant blended odours. • Another requirement is that it is stable in compositions in which it can be used commercially, for instance when in soap or shampoo its odour and other properties must not change on storage. • The third requirement is that the compound must be capable of being synthesized at low cost from readily available starting materials. There is little or no commercial interest in compounds as synthetic perfumery compounds if their synthesis requires expensive and poorly available starting materials or if it requires expensive process steps, since the reason for providing synthetic perfumery compounds is to get away from the expense of natural perfumery compositions. Most of the thousands or millions of low molecular weight aliphatic compounds have an odour but, despite this, very few of them are useful as synthetic perfumes since very few have the required combination of useful odour characteristics (especially when blended), stability to compositions in which they can be used (e.g. soaps), and low cost. There is a continuing demand for new synthetic perfumery compounds, especially compounds that are easy to make economically and that have perfumery properties that render them very valuable for use in a wide range of perfumery compositions. Few Indian Major Players are as under: • Beauty Products India Pvt. Ltd. • Hertz Chemicals Ltd. • Industrial Perfumes Ltd. • Keva Fragrances Pvt. Ltd. • Kukar Sons (Indo French) Exports Ltd. • Lakme Exports Ltd. • Oriental Aromatics Ltd. Ponds (India) Ltd. • Surya Vinayak Inds. Ltd. • Win Medicare Pvt. Ltd. Market Outlook India has a population of 1.21 billion growing at 1.41% per annum; it is a young country with almost 65 % population below the age of 30 years. Indian fragrance industry has a promising future with the Indian FMCG market expected to grow at 12-15% for next 5 years and also with the rise disposable income, the per capita consumption of various personal care products is expected to grow significantly. India fragrance market has showcased a steady growth during the span of last five years FY’2010-FY’2015. The expanding product lines due to significant technology advancements and growing importance towards personal grooming and appearance coupled with increasing consumer spending on beauty and wellness products has contributed to the growth of the market. Out of all the fragrances, the floral fragrance is most popular due to varied uses ranging from perfumes, colognes to home cleaning products. Hot and humid climate conditions and increasing population of working class has propelled the fragrance market in India. The market for fragrance is expected to flourish at a significant CAGR of 14.2% with the revenues from sales of fragrance products marked at USD ~ million by FY’2020. The global perfume market has been forecast to reach a value of approximately US$45.6 billion by 2018, driven primarily by growth expected in the underpenetrated emerging markets and innovative product launches. The market is set to benefit from the growing trend towards consumer urbanization, higher spending propensity and the heightened importance on personal appearance and grooming. In addition, increased demand for youth-oriented, floral and exotic fragrances and celebrity perfumes will set the pace for rapid market expansion. Increasing usage of perfumes among the young population, increasing online retail penetration, product push strategy by key global players, availability of perfumes in different price ranges, and increasing consumer spending on personal and beauty care products are major factors expected to drive the growth of the global perfumes market over the forecast period. However, availability of counterfeit products and use of harmful chemical ingredients are some of the factors expected to hamper the growth of the global perfumes market over the forecast period. The global perfumes market is witnessing a growing trend of customized perfumes and the use of renewable ingredients in perfume manufacturing. Global perfume manufacturers are also venturing into the production of microbial based natural perfumes to cater to the increasing health awareness among consumers. Production of Tissue Paper from Recycled Paper

Production of Tissue Paper from Recycled Paper. Recycling of Waste Paper to Tissue Paper Tissue paper is soft, feathery, lightweight, highly absorbent, tear resistant, disposable and relatively strong paper products. The tissue paper name originates from the French word “tissue”, which meaning cloth. Because of the tissue paper is as soft as cloth. It has become an important part in our daily life. Uses of this type of paper are increasing rapidly in worldwide. Overall, a person who lives in a developing country uses some kilograms of tissue paper per year. Tissue can be made both from virgin and recycled paper pulp. Applications Hygienic tissue paper Hygienic tissue paper is commonly used for facial tissue (paper handkerchiefs), napkins, bathroom tissue and household towels. Paper has been used for hygiene purposes for centuries, but tissue paper as we know it today was not produced in USA before the mid-1940s. In Western Europe large scale industrial production started in the beginning of 1960s. Facial tissues Facial tissue (paper handkerchiefs) refers to a class of soft, absorbent, disposable paper that is suitable for use on the face. The term is commonly used to refer to the type of facial tissue, usually sold in boxes, that is designed to facilitate the expulsion of nasal mucus from the nose although it may refer to other types of facial tissues including napkins and wipes. The importance of the paper tissue on minimizing the spread of an infection has been highlighted in light of fears over a swine flu epidemic. In the UK, for example, the Government ran a campaign called "Catch it, bin it, kill it", which encouraged people to cover their mouth with a paper tissue when coughing or sneezing. Paper towels Paper towels are the second largest application for tissue paper in the consumer sector. This type of paper has usually a basis weight of 20 to 24 g/m2. Normally such paper towels are two-ply. This kind of tissue can be made from 100% chemical pulp to 100% recycled fiber or a combination of the two. Normally, some long fiber chemical pulp is included to improve strength. Toilet Tissue Rolls of toilet paper have been available since the end of the 19th century. Today, more than 20 billion rolls of toilet tissue are used each year in Western Europe. Table napkins Table napkins can be made of tissue paper. These are made from one up to four plies and in a variety of qualities, sizes, folds, colors and patterns depending on intended use and prevailing fashions. The composition of raw materials varies a lot from deinked to chemical pulp depending on quality. The production of tissue paper is done by a paper machine which is fitted to a single large steam heated drying cylinder with hot air hood on it. The raw material used is generally paper pulp, though, owing to the technological advancement and innovation in the manufacturing of tissue paper, paper pulp is now used in less quantity. The paper contains the high amount of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp and chemi-thermo mechanical pulps which improve the water holding capacity making them further applicable for various purposes. The key factors driving the growth of the tissue paper industry include changing lifestyles, rising healthcare expenditures, increasing population apart from steady rise in global GDP. However, the growth of tissue paper industry is hindered by increasing demand of hand dryers by various organizations and other environmental factors which impacts it negatively. India tissue and wipes products market is one of the growing categories in hygiene industry of the country. Tissue paper market is segmented mainly into paper napkins, toilet papers, facial tissues and other tissue based products. Wipes market mainly comprises in two categories such as personal care wipes that includes baby wipes, facial wipes, cosmetic wipes, hand sanitizing wipes, feminine wipes, intimate wipes, etc. and household cleaning wipes that contains kitchen wipes, kitchen wipes, glass surface cleaning wipes, bathroom wipes, food service wipes, automotive care wipes. Personal hygiene is of prime importance to Indian consumers. In an age of increased awareness about hygiene and the range of products available, tissue and hygiene in India continues to post strong double-digit growth, with this performance also being supported by rising disposable incomes. Production of Sweetener from Rice

Production of Sweetener from Rice. Rice Syrup Sweetener, Brown Rice Syrup Manufacturing Business. Brown Rice Syrup is a natural sweetener produced by fermenting cooked brown rice. Rice syrup can be made from white rice, brown rice or certified organic rice. Also known as rice malt syrup, brown rice syrup is made with whole grain rice subjected to an enzymatic reaction. This process breaks down the starches in the rice, and the simpler sugar (maltose and maltotriose) is separated in liquid format. This liquid is then boiled down into syrup. Brown rice syrup is an alternative to refined table sugar and artificial sweeteners and is often included as an ingredient for many processed foods. To make brown rice syrup, brown rice is fermented to break down the starch in the grains, then the liquid is removed and heated until it reaches a syrup-like consistency. Two tablespoons of brown rice syrup contains 110 calories and 25 grams of sugar, so it should be consumed in moderation. Brown rice syrup contains a few trace minerals, including magnesium, manganese, and zinc. But that doesn't make it healthy. Although it's made from brown rice and little else, it's highly refined and concentrated, making it a source of calories and carbs, as well as trace minerals. However, as far as sweeteners go, it is all-natural, nearly always organic, and probably one of the healthiest sugar substitutes available, with the exception of stevia. It can be used as a general sweetener and in cooking. It is vegan, unlike honey, and can be used instead of it. It has a lower glycemic index than sugar but diabetics will need to carefully count it as part of their regulated carbohydrate intake. Rice syrup is used as base sweetener in edible sweet syrups (Flavored / Unflavored), blended honey, bakery foods, cakes, pastries, fillings, toppings, candies, canned fruits, health drinks, juices, soft drinks, Dairy products, ice-creams and so on. Increasing health diseases such as diabetes, heart risks, and high blood pressure has resulted in the introduction of alternatives to conventional table sugar. Natural sweeteners are preferred as alternatives to table sugar and are highly consumed among the consumers in various forms. One such alternative which is one of the most preferred sweeteners is rice syrup or brown rice syrup. Rice syrup is included as one of the main ingredients in processed foods. Rice syrup is considered to be a nutritive sweetener, unlike saccharin and aspartame. Rice syrup is used as a sweetener in cereals and snacks bar. Rice syrups also serve as a table-top sweetener for various beverages such as coffee, tea, health drinks and juices. Growing awareness and demand for rice syrup is expected to pose a major threat to artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and corn sugar. Rice syrup market is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period. Fructose, which is found in many sweeteners, is a fast releasing sugar, which tends to cause insulin to spike. Brown rice sugar is a polysaccharide or a complex sugar, so it dissolves more easily in the bloodstream preventing an accumulation of fat. The complex carbohydrates and nutrients in brown rice syrup mean a longer digestion time and a longer lasting flow of energy. This may help control blood sugar levels and reduce cholesterol. Rice syrup is considered to be a nutritive sweetener owing to the number of minerals included in it such as phosphor and magnesium. The shift in the consumer preference towards food and beverages including natural ingredients is growing at a faster phase. Moreover, soft drink producers are also witnessing rising demand for a soft drink with reduced sugar. Hence, to meet the demand, producers are replacing sugar with natural and artificial sweeteners. A lot of research activities are also going on to produce new natural sweeteners. Companies are also investing in advanced technologies to for product development with innovative and superior quality. Sugar- stevia blend has also made a position in the natural sweetener market with companies launching new products. The market is likely to witness growth due to the wide acceptance of natural sweeteners. The global market for natural sweeteners to witness moderate growth and to register a CAGR of 4.5% between 2017 and 2026. The global market for natural sweetener is also likely to garner US$ 39,091.7 million in terms of revenue by 2026 end. Major factor driving growth of the target market over the forecast period is increasing adoption of natural sweeteners in healthcare industry as well as in daily food, owing to its health benefits such as, it helps to reduce blood sugar in diabetic patients. In addition, increasing concerns related to health among the individuals across the globe is another factor expected to fuel growth of this market. However, comparatively high cost of natural sweeteners than normal sugar is a factor expected to hamper growth of the target market in the near future. The global natural sweeteners market is expected to witness substantial growth over the forecast period on account of growing demand for different kind of substitutes such as low-intensity sweeteners, high-intensity sweeteners and high-fructose syrup in food & beverage and healthcare industry. Natural sweeteners manufacturing companies are expected to benefit from the growing health concerns among people and demand for low-calorie sweeteners as it anticipated that natural sweeteners market will convert into the new business as food & beverage manufacturers will search for inexpensive natural sweeteners. The sweetener market In India today stands at approximately Rs.150 crores with a double-digit growth. This is minuscule, looking into the number of diabetics and pre-diabetics in India. With the changed regulatory scenario allowing the use of sweeteners in everyday consumables, the market is bound to grow. With the entry of new and safer molecules, the artificial sweetener industry in India could witness large volumes. In 2016 the Indian market for food sweeteners was valued at USD 9 billion and is estimated to register a CAGR of 3.5% during the forecast period. India Food Sweetener Market Dynamics Sugar dictates more than 80% share in this market. The major constraint in the sugar market is the volatility in prices, leading to market fluctuations. India is currently the world’s largest consumer of sugar with domestic consumption increasing by more than 4% annually. This growth is due to increased awareness and usage of dietary foods. Another major driver is the growing population of overweight, obese, and diabetic patients which is resulting in growth in this category. On an average 5% of Indian population is obese but when seen in urban settings the numbers are incredibly high. Although presently, HIS does not constitute a major share of the market, this is the fastest growing segment due to the rising health concerns among people. Global sweetener market is forecast to rise in next 5 years driven by demand for naturally-derived sweeteners with stevia emerging as popular sugar substitute in light of increased availability of low-calorie naturally derived sweeteners and rising awareness about them. Stevia is derived from the plant of the same name. The active compounds present in this plant are nearly 150 times sweeter than sugar and have a negligible effect on blood glucose levels. Stevia also does not because the side effects usually associated with artificial sweeteners like aspartame.
