Solar Water Heater

Solar water heater is a device that can be used to capture sunlight in order to heat the water in your pipes to be used for baths, showers, etc. Solar water heater or SWH comprises a solar panel, inverter system, and a water storage tank. The sunlight that falls on the solar panels is used to heat the water inside the insulated storage tank either through a pump or directly through the thermosyphon principle. In the thermosyphon principle, fluid circulation is based on natural convention, where warm water rises and is replaced by cold water. Some of the advantages of SWHs over CWHs are: cost-effectiveness and reduced dependence on other fossil fuels. SWHs are generally installed on the roof of a building where the intensity of sunlight is maximum throughout the day. The market for solar water heaters in India is expected to reach INR 1369 crore till 2021. Karnataka and Bangalore are having maximum share in India. In India the SWH market has been through many ups and downs. The market changes drastically in some year, remains stable for a while and then again decreases as shown in the below graph. In solar water heaters the residential sector is driving the market. Residential sector has penetrated almost 80% in the market. Industries and other commercial institutes are also picking up solar water heater as a better option. Electric water heaters are still dominating the market, but solar water heater is also growing rapidly to make a considerate share in the water heater market. Global Solar Water Heater Market is projected to exceed USD 4 billion by 2024, growing demand for environment friendly, cost effective and reliable systems for water heating purposes across commercial, industrial, and residential sector will augment the solar water heater market. Ability to reduce electricity bill by 50% to 80% will encourage the product penetration over the forecast timeline.

Captive Thermal Power Plant for Glass Industry

A captive power plant also called auto producer or embedded generation is a power generation facility used and managed by an industrial or commercial energy user for their own energy consumption. Captive power plants can operate off-grid or they can be connected to the electric grid to exchange excess generation. A captive power plant is a facility that is dedicated to providing a localised source of power to an energy user. These are typically industrial facilities or large offices. The plants may operate in grid parallel mode with the ability to export surplus power to the local electricity distribution network. Alternatively they may have the ability to operate in island mode; i.e. independently of the local electricity distribution system. Benefits • Security of power supply through self-generation • Reduced costs through high fuel efficiency, particularly when in CHP configuration • Improved environmental performance resulting from fuel efficiency Though the power generation industry is well established in most countries, limitations of providing good-quality power, round the clock to the industrial users, force industries to establish captive power plants. Generally, factories are established near the sourcing point of raw materials or mines; not always there is a power plant in the vicinity. If the distance is more then, the cost of transmission has to be borne by the user, along with added expenses due to the technical loss during transmission. Global captive power generation market is expected to grow due to the mushrooming power demand in emerging markets of China, India, and Middle East along with the presence of cross subsidized charge to the per unit power generation cost. Increasing population, industrialization, and urbanization is expected to augment captive power generation market growth. The advantages of captive power generation include reduced distribution and transmission losses, and higher thermal efficiency. Increasing demand for uninterrupted and reliable power is expected to have a positive impact on captive power generation market over the next seven years. These factors have made the captive power plant a popular choice for the industry developers. Since the industrial sector is one of the largest power consuming markets, this sector is likely to contribute to the growth of the captive power generation market over the next five years. Moreover, it is expected to hold a dominating market position during 2018-2023.

Opportunities in Production of Solar Inverter (100 KVA – 1000 KVA)

The variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic (PV) solar panel is converted into a utility frequency alternating current (AC) that can be supplied into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network by a solar inverter, also known as a PV inverter. It is a critical balance of system (BOS) component in a photovoltaic system that facilitates the use of normal AC-powered equipment. Solar power converters have developed features such as maximum power point tracking and anti-islanding prevention for usage with photovoltaic arrays. Advanced solar pumping inverters convert DC voltage from solar panels to AC voltage, allowing submersible pumps to run without the usage of batteries or other energy storage devices. MPPT (maximum power point tracking) is used by solar pumping inverters to monitor output frequency and control the speed of the pumps, preventing damage to the pump motor. Many ports for DC current supplied by PV arrays, one port for AC voltage output, and a third port for input from a water-level sensor are common on solar pumping inverters. The market for solar PV inverters is expected to develop at an annual pace of more than 8%. Reduced electricity consumption and declining economic growth have also had a negative impact on the industry. When global market activity resumes, however, demand for the industry grows at a faster rate. Factors such as decreasing inverter prices and an increase in solar PV installations are projected to boost market growth. The growth of the solar PV inverters market has been aided by technological advancements that have led in cheaper costs and improved efficiency in solar panel manufacturing. However, a lack of general understanding, infrastructure construction costs, and recent subsidy reductions on solar panels by governments in the Asia-Pacific region have all stifled market expansion.
