Plastics, Polymers and Resins, Polypropylene (PP), Polystyrene (PS), Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyester, PA, Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), Polyurethanes (PU), Polycarbonate (PC), Polyethylene (PE)Projects

Plastics have revolutionized our lives, creeping into every nook and corner of our homes and offices. However, India’s per capita consumption of plastics is still 6 kg compared to 25 kg in developed countries. Consumer plastics mainly comprise polymers such as polypropylene, high and low density polyethylene, and vinyl chloride. Broadly plastics can be classified into two types namely Thermosetting and Thermoplastic. The type of plastics includes HDPE, LDPE, PVC, PP, PS, PETE and vinyl plastics, to name a few.

The plastics industry is highly fragmented. There are about 22,000 plastic processing units, of which three-fourth are in the small –scale sector, which also accounts for a quarter of the total polymer consumption. About 30 per cent of the total polymer consumption accounts for recycled plastic. Plastics have a high volume –to-weight ratio, which makes their collection and transport a major cost factor.

The Indian plastics industry has been growing at a phenomenal rate of 15 per cent over the years. Thus its potential is being utilized properly. The boost in the plastics industry is due to the rapid growth of segments like electronics, packaging, healthcare, consumer durables and telecommunication sectors.Annually around six million tonnes of plastic is produced in the country, with the plastic packaging sector growing fastest.

Reliance Industries Ltd., Gas Authority of India and petrochemicals are major producers of polymers in India. RIL, Asia’s largest manufacturer of polypropylene with a combined capacity of over one million tonnes, holds 70 per cent market share.

India will be the third largest plastics consumer after the US and China by 2010 at over 12 million.Plastic goods consumption is expected to double in the next three years.  Experts have predicted that India’s market for finished plastic goods will reach $300 billion by 2012, while exports are expected to reach a level of $200 billion in the same period. India ranks highest in recycling of plastics with 60 per cent of plastic recycled compared with a world average of 20 per cent. Experts have estimated thatthe basic demand for plastic would be boosted over the next years by the housing, automobile and retail sectors.

X-ray Films

X-ray film displays the radiographic image and consists of emulsion (single or double) of silver halide (silver bromide (AgBr) is most common) which when exposed to light, produces a silver ion (Ag+) and an electron. The electrons get attached to the sensitivity specks and attract the silver ion. X-ray films for general radiography consist of an emulsion-gelatin containing radiation sensitive silver halide crystals, such as silver bromide or silver chloride, and a flexible, transparent, blue-tinted base. The emulsion is different from those used in other types of photography films to account for the distinct characteristics of gamma rays and x-rays, but X-ray films are sensitive to light. The global X-ray film market is expected to register a CAGR of 5% over the forecast period of 2018–2023. In the medical industry, the usage of X-ray films in dental inspection, mammograms, and orthopedic inspection hold the major share in the market. The industrial sector has a long established usage of X-ray films and is widely used in NDT methods for volumetric examination radiography. The presence of X-ray machines in hospitals enables physicians in detection of somatic issues, as well as trauma. X-ray is very useful for detection and treatment of neurological problems, cancer, cardiac diseases and bone related problems. The existing pervasiveness of these issues will increase demand for the product over the forecast period.

Polyvinyl Acetate

Polyvinyl acetate is a substance produced through the combining of many units of monomeric vinyl acetate (CH3COOCH=CH2). The number of units so combined is typically between 100 and 5,000. Polyvinyl acetate includes all homopolymers and copolymers where the vinyl acetate content is at least 50%. About 80% of total consumption is used in wood, construction and paper adhesives, and architectural coatings. Most of the remaining polymers are used in paper and textile coatings. Polyvinyl acetate is a rubber synthetic polymer, or plastic. It belongs to polyvinyl ester family and is categorized as a thermoplastic, meaning it melts at high temperatures and is elastic and flexible at room temperature. Polyvinyl acetate is a vinyl polymer and is prepared by polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer.

The jumbo bags in different sizes and dimensions in customized ranges, high space availability makes these bags to store bulk materials neatly and effectively. The Indian bulk packaging market started moving significantly only in the 1990s as the industries acquired bulk-handling capabilities to compete in the globalised world. The markets really took off at the turn of the new millennium spurred by an export led and domestic growth in the agro produce & food; bulk drugs & generics; chemicals & pesticides and Petroleum & lubricants. The market grew at around 28% for the first 6-7 years and then settled down to a 15-20 % band largely bucking the worldwide slowdown. The INR 140 bn. flexible bulk packaging industry that includes woven sacks, leno bags, wrapping fabric, and Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC) is growing at over 20% with FIBC containers expected to grow three fold in the next 5 years riding an increased industrial production and a shift toward higher-value containers offering enhanced performance and supply chain efficiency. In fact, the global slowdown has been an opportunity for the Indian FIBC manufacturers as the production cuts by the companies in Europe and USA has resulted in the sourcing shifting to India adding an important factor to the growth story.

The FIBC industry has the potential to maintain positive growth through demand emanating from international as well as domestic industries. Packaging is becoming an important aspect to protect and preserve the product from harmful rays, dust or moisture during the course of transportation. It plays an important role as primary packaging so that the product contaminate or react with any chemical. Moreover, secondary packaging plays a vital role during transportation of goods from one place to another without getting damage. Jumbo bags is a type of primary and secondary packaging solution that is specifically designed for transportation and storage purpose. These jumbo bags are commonly known as FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers), bulk bags, big bags, container bags or flexible container. These bags are equipped with easy handling for transportation due to a wide variety of lifting options which includes cross corner loops, sleeve lift, hood lift, ancillary lift, double stevedore straps, single stevedore straps, etc. Moreover, these jumbo bags are ideal for manufacturer due to the wide variety of inlets and outlets that these jumbo bags possess. Some inlets are known as open top, spout top, duffle top and flap with spout top, whereas, some outlets are flat bottom, discharge spout and discharge spout with flap. These jumbo is primarily applicable for powder, liquid, granules, etc. FIBCs are increasingly used in the storing, handling, or transporting of industrial products due to their lightweight and durability. Further in addition, the utilization of FIBCs provides cost reduction by nearly 45%- 55% to the packaging companies compared to traditional packaging. These advantages of FIBCs over other kinds of packaging will continue to drive the demand for FIBCs in the industrial applications. Significant growth in sectors such as food and horticulture, which are posting above average CAGRs, has led to a considerable increase in the demand for FIBCs. The growing need to reduce the overall weight of the bulk packaging and transporting materials is a major factor driving the demand for packaging sacks in the construction, chemical, and fertilizer sectors. Based on the region the target market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa.
