The paper industry has an important social role to play for the country. Use of paper is considered as an index of cultural growth. The paper industry is also contributing towards fulfillment of various requirements of the industry as a whole like information dissemination, publicity etc. which in turn stimulate industrial growth of the country. The paper industry has, thus, a catalytic role to play not only for the overall growth of the industry but also for the living standards of the people.

The primary products sector include manufacturing pulps from wood and other cellulose fibers, and from rags; the manufacture of paper and paperboard; and the manufacture of paper and paperboard into converted products, such as paper coated off the paper machine, paper bags, paper boxes, and envelopes and other  commodity grades of wood pulp, printing and writing papers, sanitary tissue, industrial-type papers, containerboard, and boxboard.

In the last few years, India’s paper industry has grown by 6 per cent annually. In the coming years, this growth rate will go up to 10 per cent because of huge spurt in demand for writing and printing paper. The domestic demand for paper is set to far surpass supply, with the growing emphasis on education and alternative uses of paper. The demand for upstream market of paper products, like, tissue paper, tea bags, filter paper, light weight online coated paper, medical grade coated paper, etc.,  is growing up. These developments are expected to give fillip to the industry. Improvement of key ports, roads and railways and communication facilities will help the entire industrial sector including pulp & paper.

India’s paper industry is worth Rs 225 billion. It accounts for about 1.6 per cent of the world’s production of paper and paperboard. In India, the demand for paper is set to far surpass supply and is expected to reach the level of 110 lakh tones by 2015 from 72 lakh tones in 2007. It is said that if the gross domestic product (GDP) grows at 10 per cent, paper demand will grow at 8 per cent. The per capita consumption of paper in India is barely 8 kg. Paper consumption is poised for a big leap forward in sync with the economic growth.

About 38 per cent of the total demand comes from culture paper (creamwave), while 58 per cent arises out of the industrial paper sector. The rest 4 per cent comes from speciality paper including coated paper, tissues, posters, one-time carbon (OTC), cheques, drafts, etc.

The country’s paper industry, with an existing production capacity of 90 lakh tones, requires an additional $2 billion of investment to meet the rising demand.  The capacity is likely to increase to 112 lakh tones per annum by 2010.The share of wood as raw materials has declined from 84 per cent to 36 per cent since 1970.On the other hand, the share of agro and waste paper has increased from 9 and 7 to 29 and 35 per cent, respectively. Of course, the share of recycled paper would go up in the future. The government is drawing up a new scheme for technological upgradation and modernization of paper mills.

Abrasive Paper & Flint Paper

Emery paper is a type of abrasive paper or sandpaper that can be used to abrade (remove material from) surfaces or mechanically finish a surface. Operations include deburring, polishing, paint removal, corrosion removal, sizing, etc. This is accomplished by moving the abrasive-coated paper, with some pressure, against the object being processed. Abrasion may be performed by hand, electrically powered, or air powered equipment. Abrasives are materials, usually minerals, that are used to finish or shape a working piece or other material through friction or rubbing, which in turn wears away the surface of the workpiece or subject material. There are a multitude of domestic (residential), commercial, industrial and research and development (R&D) or technological applications in processes such as buffing, cutting, drilling, grinding, honing, lapping, polishing, sanding (abrasive machining), and sharpening. Many factors are at play in determining how quickly a substance is abraded, including the adhesion between the grains, contact force, hardness differential between the two substances, grain size, loading, and the use of coolant, lubricant, or metalworking fluid. There is high demand for sand paper products for finishing and smoothing layers in industries. The Coated Abrasives Market is a growing market with many applications of abrasive coating on various products such as abrasive wheels, sandpaper or abrasive paper, grinding disk and abrasive rolls etc. used in various end user industries due to the abrasive surface across the globe. This market is expected to witness high demand owing to the increasing production of abrasive cloth, abrasive sheets by coated abrasives manufacturers and growing supply by abrasive suppliers for end use purposes in various regions across the globe in the upcoming years.

Profitable Disposable Products Manufacturing Business Ideas. Starting Your Own Production Business of Thermocol Plate, Dona, Thali and Glass, Paper Coffee and Pepsi Glass, Silver Coated Dona, Plates and Spoons, Plastic Glass and Spoon, Tissue Paper. A disposable (also called disposable product) is a product designed for a single use after which it is recycled or is disposed as solid waste. Disposable products are those products which are meant for a single use and after that they are recycled for reuse. The term often implies economical and ease of use rather than medium to long-term durability. Disposables are most often made from paper, plastic, cotton, or polystyrene foam. Examples of disposables are-Disposable dishware / drink ware (e.g. plates, bowls, cups), Plastic cutlery (e.g. spoons, knives, forks, sporks), Disposable table cloth, Cans, bottles, jars, cartons, wrappers and other food packaging are largely recyclable, and some are even compostable, Inexpensive Tupperware products are recyclable, Cupcake wrappers, coffee filters are compostable. The term often implies cheapness and short-term convenience rather than medium to long-term durability. The term is also sometimes used for products that may last several months (e.g. disposable air filters) to distinguish from similar products that last indefinitely (e.g. washable air filters). The word "disposables" is not to be confused with the word "consumables" which is widely used in the mechanical world. In welding for example, welding rods, tips, nozzles, gas, etc. are considered to be "consumables" as they only last a certain amount of time before needing to be replaced. The disposable plastic cups are manufactured by thermoforming technique. They are fast replacing conventional cups. Drinking water, Ice-cream and other dairy products are packed in disposable cups. Besides Ice-cream industry, hotels, restaurants, canteens etc. have been increasingly using disposable cups as against conventional glass-wares or ceramic cups. Disposable cups are mainly used for food items and are made out of polypropylene or polystyrene sheets. Sheets having thickness 0.35 mm to 2 mm is used for these items in thermoforming machine. The disposable cups are gaining popularity due to attractive look, light weight for container, ease of transportation and low impermeability. Now-a-days organizations like railways, airlines are using disposable cups for serving water, coffee, tea etc. Paper cups are disposable cups made out of paper and lined with wax or plastic to prevent liquid from soaking the paper. Paper cups are made using food grade paper, which is hygienic and capable of storing both hot or cold liquid for long times. With the rising awareness and rapidly changing lifestyles, the demand for paper cups has increased tremendously year on year. Paper cups are becoming more and more popular across the globe as a way to become more eco-friendly and reduce exposure to food borne infections. Paper cups demand are majorly originating from IT companies, educational institutions, food canteens, industrial canteen, restaurants, coffee or tea shop, fast food, super markets, health clubs and event organizers. As paper cups are a product of daily use and have mass consumption requirements, selling of paper cups in the market will not be a problem. With well-established demand and supply forces, the prices of paper cups in the market can be easily ascertained and sold in bulk to traders or end customers through a variety of channels. Paper cups and plates are normally made as per the specifications of the customer. The paper is first printed on a printing press, the printed part is then cut to size and given shape by die cutting. The bottom part and upper part of the cup are then assembled to a cup shape in screw press. For plates, the paper is cut to the required size of circles. The cut circles are pressed in a screw press for obtaining desired design and shape. For wax coated cups & plates are put in wax coating machine. Disposable paper plates and saucers as the name suggests are made out of special quality paper reinforced with polythene sheets to make it leak proof. These products are conveniently used for serving eatables during family functions, eating chats and snacks, fruits, sweets etc. Most of the sweet shops use it for serving their customers with dry as well as wet sweets/ namkeens. The caterers utilize it during parties and social functions. These are a convenient replacement for crockery and utensils. These have many advantages over conventional crockery/ steel utensils. Whereas conventional utensils need care in handling, have to be cleaned before and after use need lot of space for storage and are difficult to handle these products are light in weight, are disposable after use, cheaper and can be stored easily. These are very cheap as compared to convention utensils. The paper plates and bowls are made by fusing two layers of good quality paper with a sheet of polythene. The product can be in any desired shape and size depending upon the die employed for manufacture. The quality of paper used is generally of importance as it should be firm enough to maintain the shape and hold the weight of the eatable served in it. Tissue paper is soft, feathery, lightweight, highly absorbent, tear resistant, disposable and relatively strong paper products. The tissue paper name originates from the French word “tissue”, which meaning cloth. Because of the tissue paper is as soft as cloth. It has become an important part in our daily life. Uses of this type of paper are increasing rapidly in worldwide. Most paper cups are designed for a single use and then disposal. Very little recycled paper is used to make paper cups because of contamination concerns and regulations. Few Indian Major Players are as under: • Shree Balaji Enterprises • Halai G S Plastic • Prakrithi Exports • Corp Scan Business Consultants • Shank Trading Corporation • Goldcoin Foam Private Ltd. Market Outlook Global sales of disposable cups were valued at close to US$ 12 Bn in 2016 and are projected to reach more than US$ 20 Bn by 2026. Sales revenue is expected to increase at a CAGR of 5.9% in terms of value during the projected period. India’s per capita paper consumption at nine kg, against 22 kg in Indonesia, 25 kg in Malaysia and 42 kg in China. The global average stands at 58 kg. Due to the recent change in the life style of urban class the demand for disposable cups is increasing at a rapid rate. Apart from being used at home, they also come in handy during parties, picnics and other functions and get-togethers. Plastic disposable cups are also used by Ice-cream industry, hotels, restaurants, canteens etc. but the major customer of disposable cups is ice-cream industry and they have started using plastic cups instead of paper ones that were being used earlier. The main advantage of these plastic cups is that they are completely leak proof. Plastic cups can be made up of different sizes and they can hold bulk material easily in comparison to the traditional paper cups. Besides organization like Railways, Airlines are using a good quantity of plastic disposable cups. The demand for paper plates is likely to grow substantially in future both in urban as well as rural areas. Paper plates are produced from paperboards classed in the category of industrial paper. Due weightage is given to the fact that demand for boards and industrial paper is rising at a much faster rate than writing and printing paper. It has been estimated that demand for boards and industrial paper could be as high as nine per cent compared with five per cent now. According to recent data, globally, per capita paper consumption for Europe is 129 kg, Australia 116 kg, Asia 45 kg and in China it is 75 kg. In India, on the other hand, the per capita paper consumption hovers between nine and 11 kg. Even developing countries have a much higher per capita consumption as compared to India. Production of Tissue Paper from Recycled Paper

Production of Tissue Paper from Recycled Paper. Recycling of Waste Paper to Tissue Paper Tissue paper is soft, feathery, lightweight, highly absorbent, tear resistant, disposable and relatively strong paper products. The tissue paper name originates from the French word “tissue”, which meaning cloth. Because of the tissue paper is as soft as cloth. It has become an important part in our daily life. Uses of this type of paper are increasing rapidly in worldwide. Overall, a person who lives in a developing country uses some kilograms of tissue paper per year. Tissue can be made both from virgin and recycled paper pulp. Applications Hygienic tissue paper Hygienic tissue paper is commonly used for facial tissue (paper handkerchiefs), napkins, bathroom tissue and household towels. Paper has been used for hygiene purposes for centuries, but tissue paper as we know it today was not produced in USA before the mid-1940s. In Western Europe large scale industrial production started in the beginning of 1960s. Facial tissues Facial tissue (paper handkerchiefs) refers to a class of soft, absorbent, disposable paper that is suitable for use on the face. The term is commonly used to refer to the type of facial tissue, usually sold in boxes, that is designed to facilitate the expulsion of nasal mucus from the nose although it may refer to other types of facial tissues including napkins and wipes. The importance of the paper tissue on minimizing the spread of an infection has been highlighted in light of fears over a swine flu epidemic. In the UK, for example, the Government ran a campaign called "Catch it, bin it, kill it", which encouraged people to cover their mouth with a paper tissue when coughing or sneezing. Paper towels Paper towels are the second largest application for tissue paper in the consumer sector. This type of paper has usually a basis weight of 20 to 24 g/m2. Normally such paper towels are two-ply. This kind of tissue can be made from 100% chemical pulp to 100% recycled fiber or a combination of the two. Normally, some long fiber chemical pulp is included to improve strength. Toilet Tissue Rolls of toilet paper have been available since the end of the 19th century. Today, more than 20 billion rolls of toilet tissue are used each year in Western Europe. Table napkins Table napkins can be made of tissue paper. These are made from one up to four plies and in a variety of qualities, sizes, folds, colors and patterns depending on intended use and prevailing fashions. The composition of raw materials varies a lot from deinked to chemical pulp depending on quality. The production of tissue paper is done by a paper machine which is fitted to a single large steam heated drying cylinder with hot air hood on it. The raw material used is generally paper pulp, though, owing to the technological advancement and innovation in the manufacturing of tissue paper, paper pulp is now used in less quantity. The paper contains the high amount of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp and chemi-thermo mechanical pulps which improve the water holding capacity making them further applicable for various purposes. The key factors driving the growth of the tissue paper industry include changing lifestyles, rising healthcare expenditures, increasing population apart from steady rise in global GDP. However, the growth of tissue paper industry is hindered by increasing demand of hand dryers by various organizations and other environmental factors which impacts it negatively. India tissue and wipes products market is one of the growing categories in hygiene industry of the country. Tissue paper market is segmented mainly into paper napkins, toilet papers, facial tissues and other tissue based products. Wipes market mainly comprises in two categories such as personal care wipes that includes baby wipes, facial wipes, cosmetic wipes, hand sanitizing wipes, feminine wipes, intimate wipes, etc. and household cleaning wipes that contains kitchen wipes, kitchen wipes, glass surface cleaning wipes, bathroom wipes, food service wipes, automotive care wipes. Personal hygiene is of prime importance to Indian consumers. In an age of increased awareness about hygiene and the range of products available, tissue and hygiene in India continues to post strong double-digit growth, with this performance also being supported by rising disposable incomes. Global Tissue Paper Market is expected to post a robust CAGR of over 6% by 2023, in value terms owing to the flourishing tourism and hospitality industry where paper towels and napkins are widely used. Moreover, the increasing population of working women globally coupled with the growing awareness among consumers related to health & hygiene is expected to drive the Global Tissue Paper Market by 2023. Based on the Product, the paper towel segment holds the largest market, owing to its cost-effectiveness and widespread use in the hospitality industries. Based on the distribution channel, the non-store retail segment is expected to lead the market by 2023, due to the convenience factor associated with online as well as teleshopping platforms. Asia-Pacific is expected to grow at the highest rate during the forecast year due to rising disposable incomes, improving standards of living and rapid industrialization and globalization in the emerging economies like China, Japan and India. Tissue paper primarily finds their application in commercial places, driving the growth of the commercial segment in the eco tissue paper market throughout the upcoming period. The growing demand by the consumers for tissue paper in commercial places drives the growth of this application segment in the tissue paper market. Global tissue paper market is expected to witness substantial growth over the forecast period on account of its multiple applications in the growing markets. The drivers of tissue paper industry for the forecast period are expected to be the changing lifestyle of consumers, rising healthcare expenditures, growing population and low penetration of substitutes for paper tissues. Furthermore, tissue paper industry is expected to dominate the market owing to the awareness amongst people for hygiene and cleanliness. Making Toilet / Tissue Paper from Recycled Materials • Waste paper is collected, sorted and brought to the paper plant mill, where it is mixed with water and chemicals, then pulped, filtered, refined and turned into pulp. • The treated pulp comes out of the paper mill on a jumbo roll, which is then transported to a converting tissue plant where it will be converted into the final product (i.e. toilet rolls / tissue paper). • The toilet / tissue paper is then embossed, perforated and transferred onto long toilet logs as per the correct sheet count. • The long toilet / tissue paper logs are then fed to the band saw which automatically cuts the toilet / tissue paper logs to the correct size, ready to be packed. • It is then fed into the various wrapping machines and shipped to the various retailers.
