Mineral: Project Opportunities in West Bengal

PROFILE:

A mineral is a naturally occurring solid chemical substance formed through biogeochemical processes, having characteristic chemical composition, highly ordered atomic structure, and specific physical properties. India is one of the world's most naturally endowed lands. India is home to numerous minerals which benefit the country economically. The minerals produced in India constitute one-quarter of the world's most popular mineral resources.

RESOURCES:

West Bengal stands third in the country in terms of mineral production. The state contributes about one-fifth to the total production of minerals in the country. Coal constitutes 99% of the minerals extracted in West Bengal; fireclay, china clay, limestone, copper, iron, wolfram, manganese and dolomite are mined in small quantities. There are good possibilities of obtaining mineral oil and natural gas in the areas near the Bay of Bengal.

West Bengal is the third largest state for coal production, accounting for about half of India's total. Lignite mined in Darjeeling is used to make briquettes. West Bengal ranks next to Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in production of fireclay. China clay used in the pottery, paper, textile, rubber and paint industries are unearthed at Mohammad Bazar in Birbhum and Mejia in Bankura. Limestone which is used in cement industry is mined in Bankura, Purulia, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. There are copper mines in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Small quantities of low quality iron-ore are mined in Bardhaman, Purulia, Birbhum and Darjeeling. There are manganese in the Jhargram region of Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bardhaman. The state’s production of dolomite comes from the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Keeping pace with the liberalised Mineral Policy being adopted by the Government of India, Government of West Bengal has formulated its Mineral Policy in 2002. Among the basic objectives of the West Bengal Mineral Policy, 2002 following are worth mentioning:

1. To review the existing State monopolies over mineral exploration and wherever required, go in for selective de-reservation.

2. To invite private capital, resources and technology, both foreign and domestic, for better exploration and exploitation;

3. To promote necessary linkages for smooth and uninterrupted development of mineral based industries to meet the needs of the State.

Iron and Steel: Project Opportunities in West Bengal

PROFILE:

India has one of the richest reserves of all the raw materials required for the industry, namely land, capital, cheap labour, iron ore, power, coal etc. Yet India is 5th in the world ranking for production of steel. Iron and steel is basis for laying the vibrant Indian industry. Production of steel has come to exist as an index of a country's potential, industrial and economic growth. The making of iron and steel had been known to the people of India since long. The iron pillar of Delhi is a proof of it and speaks of the quality of steel produced in this country in ancient times. The steel industry is often considered to be an indicator of economic progress, because of the critical role played by steel in infrastructural and overall economic development. The per capita usage of steel gives an indication of the technological advancement of a nation.

RESOURCES:

The growth of steel industry in the State is largely related to the proximity of raw materials, skilled manpower, port facilities and the vast market for steel products. Given these location advantages, large numbers of mini integrated steel plants have already been set up in the state manufacturing a wide range of products such as sponge irons, mild steels, iron pipes etc. The neighbouring Eastern States of India viz. Jharkhand, Orissa and Chattisgarh are endowed with huge iron ore reserves along with cooking coal and non-cooking coal. The establishment of Bengal Iron Works at Kulti in Burdwan district of West Bengal in 1870 where the first commercial blast furnace was set up in 1875 heralded the commencement of this industry in the State.

The easy availability of power, competitive rates of freight, close proximity to areas with natural resources relevant to the industry, and labour force traditionality skilled in operating iron and steel units are factors that have influenced the surge in investment in this sector.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Under the new industrial policy, iron and steel has been made one of the high priority industries. Price and distribution controls have been removed  as well as foreign direct investment up to 100% (under automatic route) has been permitted.  The Trade Policy has also been liberalized and import and export of iron and steel is freely allowed with no quantitative restrictions on import of iron and steel items. Tariffs on various items of iron and steel have drastically come down since 1991-92 levels and the government is committed to bring them down to the international levels.  With the abolishing of price regulation of iron and steel in 92, the steel prices are market determined. The policy devises a multi-pronged strategy to achieve these targets with following focus areas; removal of supply constraints especially availability  of critical inputs like iron ore; improve cost competitiveness by expanding and strengthening the infrastructure in roads, railways, ports and power; increase exports; meet the additional capital requirements by mobilizing financial resources; promote investments by removing  procedural delays. In addition the policy also addresses challenges arising out of environmental concerns, human resource requirements, R&D, volatile steel prices and the secondary sector.

Disposable Surgical Face Mask & N95 Masks

A surgical mask is a loose-fitting, disposable mask that’s rectangular in shape. The mask has elastic bands or ties that can be looped behind ears or tied behind head to hold it in place. Which has better bacteria filtration and air permeability while remaining less slippery than woven cloth. The material most commonly used to make them is polypropylene, either 20 or 25 grams per square meter (gsm) in density. Masks can also be made of polystyrene, polycarbonate, polyethylene, or polyester. A properly worn three-ply surgical mask may help block transmission of large-particle microorganisms from droplets, sprays, splatters, and splashes. The mask may also reduce the likelihood of hand-to-face contact. N95 respirators are examples of personal protective equipment that are used to protect the wearer from airborne particles and from liquid contaminating the face. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also regulate N95 respirators. The 'N95' designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. Using face-masks in public is very useful in minimising community transmission and burden of COVID-19, provided their coverage level is high. The masks coverage needed to eliminate COVID-19 decreases if the masks-based intervention is combined with strict social distancing strategy. Even the World Health Organization says wearing a medical mask is “one of the prevention measures to limit spread of certain respiratory diseases, including novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), in affected areas”. Transmission through droplets from coughing and sneezing is one of the major routes of virus spread. When worn correctly, a mask can reduce the risk of inhaling droplets containing the virus. Surgical Mask Market size is forecast to reach $66.70 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 5.76% during the forecast period 2020-2025. Advancements in the field of medical surgery and diagnosis and increase in the number of the medical device manufacturing companies along with the frequent outbreak of epidemics are the major factors driving the growth of the market. Increase in the adoption of surgical mask among general population and the rising advancements in the field of medical surgery is set to further enhance the overall market demand of surgical mask during the forecast period 2020-2025. Surgical mask market top companies are Thea Tex Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., Z Plus Disposable, Medicare Hygiene Limited, Mediblue Health Care Private Limited.,Nexera Medical, Planar Tech, Medline Industries Inc., Plasti Surge Industries Pvt. Ltd tc. Ayurvedic /Herbal Hand Sanitizer

Hand hygiene is the best tool in preventing opportunistic infections caused by different micro organisms and to achieve this, the use of hand sanitizers becomes must in current scenario. Right hand washing and drying methods stop the chain of transmission of deadly pathogens (from the contaminated surface/site) form hands to other parts of the body. Hand sanitization is the preeminent aid in preventing nosocomial infections caused by different opportunistic microorganisms and to get this, the use of hand sanitizer becomes must in recent circumstances. Herbal hand sanitizer incorporating the leaves extracts of Ocimumcanctum Linn.(Tulsi)and Eucalyptus globules (Nilgiri), the well-known herbal combination with multidimensional activities; and to evaluate their respective antimicrobial efficacy and safety of hands. Herbal hand sanitizer was prepared using leaves extracts of Ocimum sanctum, Eugenia caryophyllus and Cymbopogon flexuous. The antibiotic sensitivity test of the prepared herbal hand sanitizer against skin pathogens was checked using disc diffusion method and results were compared with commercially available synthetic hand sanitizer. The herbal hand sanitizer gives larger inhibition zone than the commercially available synthetic hand sanitizer against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The efficacy of herbal hand sanitizer was evaluated using microorganism suspensions; which revealed that the herbal hand sanitizer is efficient in reducing higher number of microorganism from the hands as compared to commercial synthetic hand sanitizer. Thus, owing to higher antimicrobial activity and efficacy these herbal extracts can be used in the preparation of herbal hand sanitizers on commercial scale. In the absence of a vaccine or effective antiviral drugs, hand hygiene is a mainstay of efforts to prevent the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19. The sanitiser contains natural extracted oils, which increase the antiseptic properties and act against bacterial contamination. It also provides cooling and natural fragrance along with moisturizing the skin upon use. India hand sanitizer market is projected to surpass $ 43 million by 2025. Growth of hand sanitizer market in India can be attributed to rising awareness about healthy lifestyle & wellness, shifting consumer preference towards convenient hygiene products and rising disposable income. Moreover, the strong marketing activities by leading brands, in addition to huge endorsements, are some other drivers of hand sanitizer market in India. Moreover, the COVID-19 outbreak has boosted demand for sanitizers like never before across the diverse end user segments. The rising healthcare investments for providing a high-end and safer medical environment for healthcare professionals by preventing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) have augmented the demand for hand sanitizers in the medical sector. Furthermore, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the demand of hand sanitizers has increased exponentially since the start of 2020. Jute is a natural vegetable fibre made from the outer stem and skin of the jute plant. Also known as 'the golden fibre' due to its shiny golden colour and financial worth, jute is valued for its versatility and wide range of applications. The most common use for jute fibre is in the production of jute fabric and a number of other fabrics, including hessian, scrim and canvas. These fabrics can be found in clothing, upholstery and soft furnishings, packaging of many kinds and geotextiles (for landscape reinforcement, landfill covering etc). Jute fabric is a type of textile fiber made from the jute plant. While there are a few different botanical varieties of jute, one of the main species used to make jute fabric is Corchorus olitorius (white jute). However, another species of jute, called Corchorus capsularis (tossa jute) is considered to be superior even though it is harder to cultivate. Cotton takes the title of most-produced plant-based fiber, but jute is a close second. Jute is one of the primary textile fibers of India and neighboring countries. Jute plants grow to be over 10 feet high, and the fibers derived from these plants are harvested in a single long string. Therefore, jute fibers are among the longest natural textile fibers in the world. The majority of the world’s jute is produced in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Specifically, 85% of jute production is localized to the Ganges River Delta, which spans throughout Bangladesh and the Bengal region of India. Jute fabric is used in gunny bags have long been used to transport vegetables, fruits, and other goods, and bags has also been used as an insulative material. Hands are primary mode of transmission of microbes and infections. Hand-washing is critical in food production, food service and also important in healthcare setting, homes and day care preparations. Hand hygiene is therefore the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent the infections. Hand hygiene is the single most important, simplest, and least expensive means of preventing nosocomial infections. To protect the skin from harmful micro organisms and to prevent spreading of many contagious diseases, hand washing is absolutely an important precaution. The significance of hand washing is more vital when it is allied to health care workers because of possible contagion of bacteria that can be pathogenic or opportunistic. Liquid soaps contain antimicrobial active ingredients which take away more bacteria as compared to plain soap. For control of Staphylococcal infections in hospitals and other health care’s, it has been found that the greatest benefits from hand washing came from the first 20% of washing and very petite additional benefits were gained when hand clean-up rate was increased beyond 35%. Washing with plain soap results in more than triple the rate of bacterial infectious diseases transmitted to food as compared to washing with antibacterial hand washes. Comparing hand washes with alcohol-based solutions and washing with antibacterial for a median time of 30 seconds, each one showed that the alcohol-based hand washes reduced bacterial contamination 26% more than the antibacterial. But liquid soap and water is the more effective than alcohol-based hand rubs for reducing H1N1 influenza A virus and Clostridium diffcile spores from hands. Liquid hand soap contains anionic surfactant, cocamide dea surfactant, coco betaine as amphoteric surfactant, opaque agent as making opaque, dye, fragrance, glycerine for prevention hand outside conditions and etc. In addition, antibacterial agent for making antibacterial hand liquid soap. Making hand liquid soap for children, can be used soft ingredients. For making natural liquid hand soap as opaque or clear not changing. used natural and herbal oil, potassium hydroxide, water, glycerine, dye and fragrance. These ingredients are used to make saponification for hand liquid soap as natural. One of the best ways to prevent infection from the coronavirus is to avoid being exposed to the virus and stop it from entering in the body. Some of the easiest ways to become infected by a virus is to transfer it from hands to mouth, nose or eyes. Washing hands using hand wash or soap has a dual effect, it primarily washes the virus away from body. It also disrupts the virus so it cannot bind and infect cells. The coronavirus (COVID-19) belong to the family of enveloped viruses. The “envelop” is like a jacket made up of lipids and proteins and protects the virus from the environment and helps it to enter human cells such as lung cells. Production of Latex & Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile is a synthetic rubber compound that is commonly used as a disposable glove material. Nitrile has a higher puncture resistance than any other glove material. Nitrile also has a better chemical resistance than Latex or Vinyl gloves. Nitrile gloves are a more hypoallergenic choice. Created from synthetic rubbers, the incidence of nitrile rubber allergy is extremely low. Nitrile gloves are not packed in powder and are easy to handle directly on removal from the box. Nitrile gloves are considered to be the ideal choice in emergency situations when the allergy status of a patient or user is not known. Nitrile gloves are extremely durable and puncture resistant. Nitrile gloves can withstand exposure to oils, solvents, and chemicals which easily destroy natural latex gloves. Nitrile gloves are commonly used as exam gloves, but due to their strength, lend themselves to multiple uses. Nitrile comes in powdered form, sterile, non-sterile and offered at different lengths from wrist to forearm. They are designed for multiple uses that include basic exam room checks, to hazardous materials handling, like working with chemotherapy chemicals. Powder Free Nitrile Gloves are anti-static in behavior, good solvent resistant, odour free, and hence useful in food and dairy industry. Powder-free gloves reduce the cause of allergies by lowering protein and chemical content. Powdered gloves are usually lubricated with cornstarch, which makes them much easier to put on. Cornstarch coatings have replaced other powdering options such as lycopodium powder and talc because these other coating types have been found to irritate tissue. Nevertheless, even cornstarch can impede healing when coming into contact with tissues, so powder-free gloves are often preferred for surgeries and other sensitive procedures. Nitrile gloves however are not as soft as latex gloves, and are not known for being easy to wear. In fact, their strength is a weakness when dealing with applications that require fine movements and dexterity. Nitrile is also slightly more expensive to produce. Latex comes directly from rubber trees. Latex gloves are the most commonly used disposable gloves because they have been the only strong disposable glove material option on the market. However, now many hospitals and clinics have begun replacing their latex gloves with nitrile gloves. Latex gloves are often preferred by healthcare providers since they provide the best service when it comes to elasticity, comfort and fit. Surgeons in particular benefit from latex gloves since they are great for sensitive work, since they offer more precision with high tactile sensitivity. While there are allergy concerns with latex gloves, they are sometimes more favorable to users over a nitrile glove mainly due to comfort and strength. Generally Latex gloves will be more comfortable, sensitive, and provide better grip, although the modern advances in nitrile glove manufacturing has seen nitrile gloves become more comfortable, thinner, with better dexterity. LATEX GLOVES from The Safety Zone provide the best feel, fit and dexterity. Latex gloves are available in both lightly powdered and powder free options in a variety of thicknesses. Lightly powdered latex gloves are produced with a food grade corn starch powder, making donning easier especially when hands are wet. Powder free gloves go through an extra process of chlorinating the gloves to ease donning. Polymer coated latex gloves provide an additional barrier to prevent latex proteins from touching the skin. The physical properties of latex offer protection from bio hazardous risks whilst superior elasticity and tensile strength. These properties provide unsurpassed user comfort and a reasonable resistance to cuts and abrasions. Though Latex can continue its strong use within the medical field for a few time however, the utilization of nitrile disposable gloves across all market sectors worldwide can continue to grow powerfully within the coming back years because of the robust features and minimal drawbacks of nitrile material. How are Nitrile gloves made? Nitrile itself is made during a chemistry lab, undergoing processes that solely those of us who have a degree in chemistry would understand. However, what we are able to wrap our minds around is that the production of nitrile is far less complicated and far a lot of cost effective than the production of natural latex rubber. Nitrile gloves are made in an exceedingly production line wherever glove forms are first dipped in a nitrate solution. This solution coagulates on the glove form, and may be a think about however thick the glove is in its final form. Once the calcium nitrate solution has dried equally on the glove form, the glove form is swaybacked within the nitrile answer to form the glove. This cures on the glove form before a powerful, direct burst of air blows the new created glove right off the glove form. Uses Nitrile gloves bear one in all three processes chlorination, polymer coating or by adding cornstarch. Chlorination involves exposing the gloves to chlorine – as an acid mixture or gas – to make the material tougher and slicker. Polymer coating lubricates the glove surface by adding a layer of polymer. For pulverized nitrile gloves about 1/8 teaspoon of cornstarch is usually placed within every glove to act as a lubricating substance and make it easier to done. Users of nitrile gloves cannot invariably management the environment during which they're going to be used, therefore choosing the correct glove for the task is essential.
