Agro Based Industry: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Agro-based industry would mean any activity involved in cultivation, under controlled conditions of agricultural and horticultural crops, including floriculture and cultivation of vegetables and post-harvest operation on all fruits and vegetables. The development of agro-industries has assumed crucial importance in the economic planning and progress of the country. The agro industry is regarded as an extended arm of agriculture. The development of the agro industry can help stabilise and make agriculture more lucrative and create employment opportunities both at the production and marketing stages. The broad-based development of the agro-products industry will improve both the social and physical infrastructure of India.

RESOURCES:

Uttar Pradesh is a very fertile region and a major contributor to the national food grain stock. Partly this is due to the fertile regions of the Indo-Gangetic plain, and partly owing to irrigation measures such as the Ganga Canal. Lakhimpur Kheri is the largest sugar producing district in the country. It is also home to 78% of national livestock population. Uttar Pradesh is among the largest producers of agricultural commodities in the country. It produces 34 per cent of the total groundnut, 17.5 per cent of rapeseed, 8 per cent of fruits and 14 per cent of vegetables. It has the largest livestock in the country and its milk production is the highest in the country. It is the largest producer of sugarcane and ranks second in the manufacture of sugar. Uttar Pradesh, with its prosperity in the agricultural sector enabled the growth of allied industry like warehousing, cold storages and flourmills. At 2,659, food product manufacturing sector has the highest number of factories (19.5 per cent of the total) in the state.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

In India, agricultural trade policy is a part of a larger food and agriculture policy regime that seeks to maintain food self-sufficiency while providing income support to the agricultural sector and poor consumers. The Government of India (GOI) uses a variety of policy instruments in attempting to achieve these goals, including:

·         Domestic subsidies to inputs, outputs, transportation, storage, and consumption to reduce producer costs and consumer prices.

·         Border measures such as subsidies, tariffs, quotas, and non-tariff measures to protect domestic producers from import competition, manage domestic price levels, and guarantee domestic supply.

The National Policy on Agriculture seeks to actualise the vast untapped growth potential of Indian agriculture, strengthen rural infrastructure to support faster agricultural development, promote value addition, accelerate the growth of agro business, create employment in rural areas, secure a fair standard of living for the farmers and agricultural workers and their families, discourage migration to urban areas and face the challenges arising out of economic liberalization and globalisation. Over the next two decades, it aims to attain:

·         A growth rate in excess of 4 per cent per annum in the agriculture sector;

·         Growth that is based on efficient use of resources and conserves our soil, water and bio-diversity;

·         Growth with equity, i.e., growth which is widespread across regions and farmers;

·         Growth that is demand driven and caters to domestic markets and maximises benefits from exports of agricultural products in the face of the challenges arising from economic liberalization and globalisation;

·         Growth that is sustainable technologically, environmentally and economically.

The policy seeks to promote technically sound, economically viable, environmentally non-degrading, and socially acceptable use of country’s natural resources - land, water and genetic endowment to promote sustainable development of agriculture.

Live Stock: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Livestock sector plays a critical role in the welfare of India's rural population. Indian livestock industry represents major foods of animal origin: milk, eggs, chicken, goat meat and fish.  Beef and pork industries have a limited share in the market, as most Indians do not eat beef and pork. As far as feed is concerned poultry, cattle and aqua feeds have been developed in an organised way. The production regions of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and coastal areas are rich in the production of animal feed due to high crop cultivation and industrial setups that give animal feed as the by product. Enormous growth opportunities and scope exist in the Indian livestock industry; all that is required is a right approach in an appropriate direction. No doubt, if the industry is tapped appropriately it can help India become a leader in milk and meat production in the years to come.

RESOURCES:

Uttar Pradesh supports about 15% of the country's total livestock population. Of its livestock in 1961, 15% were cattle, 21% buffaloes, 13% goats and 8% other livestock. Between 1951 and 1956 there was an overall increase of 14% in the livestock population. There are nearly eight lakh hectares of water area, including lakes, tanks, rivers, canals and streams. The fishing area is over two lakh hectares and more than 175 varieties of fish. Among them are rohu, hilsa, mahseer, mangar, snow trout and mirror carp. Uttar Pradesh milk co-operatives are contributing immensely to the Indian dairy industry, the highest milk producer in the world. The impact of Uttar Pradesh milk co-operatives can be ascertained from their role in the private and co-operative systems. With the launch of innovative technologies Uttar Pradesh is now being able to enhance their milk production acutely. The merging of the rural and the urban contribution to the dairy production in Uttar Pradesh forms the Uttar Pradesh milk co-operative union.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

The livestock sector has great but untapped potential to contribute to poverty alleviation and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

·         Agricultural growth can be highly effective in reducing poverty as the largest share of the world’s poor live in rural areas.

·         Livestock provide food and income to the majority of the 1.2 billion people living on less than $1 per day.

·         Demand for livestock products is growing fast in developing countries, faster than demand for staple crops, and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

·          This demand growth can provide significant opportunities for many rural and peri-urban poor to increase returns from their livestock resources.

Waste management: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Waste utilization, recycling and reuse plays a major role in limiting resource consumption and the environmental impact of waste. Recycling is an integral part of any waste management system as it represents a key utilization alternative to reuse and energy recovery (Waste-to-Energy). Which option is ultimately chosen depends on the quality, purity and the market situation. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

The city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh produces around 1500 tons of solid waste every day. The municipal workers collect around 1100 tons every day. The municipal solid waste (MSW) is disposed of haphazardly in open dumps. With growing pressure on land due to increasing population it is increasingly difficult for Lucknow Nagar Nigam (LNN) to locate new disposal sites. In order to overcome this difficulty the LNN has entered into a contract with a company to process MSW generated in the city and to generate power and organic manure from it.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Government of Uttar Pradesh proposes development of Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project (IMSWMP) For Agra, Uttar Pradesh. UP Awas Bandhu is the nodal agency for the project. The Project has been conceptualized as an Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project comprising of the following facilities:

·         Collection of waste from individual households and its segregation into Bio-degradable and Non-biodegradable wastes.

·         Construction, Operation & Maintenance of MSW Transfer stations including Secondary transportation of waste from the transfer stations to the Treatment and Disposal facilities.

·         Development, Operation & Maintenance of Processing Facility with compost plant and any other suitable plant such as RDF, etc.

·         Development, Operation & Maintenance of Sanitary Landfill Facility including Closure of the Existing Dumpsite.

·         Setting up STPs as required beyond those proposed in JNNURM

·         O&M of all existing STPs and those to be setup by PPP development and also under JNNURM as required.

Stearic Acid - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid with an 18-carbon chain and has the IUPAC name octadecanoic acid. It is a waxy solid, and its chemical formula is CH3(CH2)16CO2H. Its name comes from the Greek word ????? "stéar", which means tallow. The salts and esters of stearic acid are called stearates. Stearic acid is one of the most common saturated fatty acids found in nature following palmitic acid. It occurs in many animal and vegetable fats and oils, but it is more abundant in animal fat (up to 30%) than vegetable fat (typically <5%). The important exceptions are cocoa butter and Shea butter, where the stearic acid content (as a triglyceride) is 28–45%. Stearic acid is prepared by treating these fats and oils with water at a high pressure and temperature (above 200°C), leading to the hydrolysis of triglycerides. The resulting mixture is then distilled. Commercial stearic acid is often a mixture of stearic and palmitic acids, although purified stearic acid is available. In terms of its biosynthesis, stearic acid is produced from carbohydrates via the fatty acid synthesis machinery via acetyl-CoA. Uses & Applications: • Soaps, cosmetics, detergents • Lubricants, softening and release agents • Niche uses • Fatty acids are classic components of candle-making Finding its use in various fields stearic acid has a high market demand and good future scope. It is mainly used in the production of detergents, soaps, and cosmetics such as shampoos and shaving cream products which automatically increases the demand of Stearic acid. As a whole establishing Stearic Acid plant is one of the project which has good prospect for the entrepreneurs to invest.

Rice Powder, Puttu and Wheat Powder - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

Wheat flour is a powder made from the grinding of wheat used for human consumption. More wheat flour is produced than any other flour. Wheat varieties are called "soft" or "weak" if gluten content is low, and are called "hard" or "strong" if they have high gluten content. Hard flour, or bread flour, is high in gluten, with 12% to 14% gluten content, and has elastic toughness that holds its shape well once baked. Rice flour (also rice powder) is a form of flour made from finely milled rice. It is distinct from rice starch, which is usually produced by steeping rice in lye. Rice flour is a particularly good substitute for wheat flour, which causes irritation in the digestive systems of those who are gluten-intolerant. Rice flour is also used as a thickening agent in recipes that are refrigerated or frozen since it inhibits liquid separation. Rice flour may be made from either white rice or brown rice. To make the flour, the husk of rice or paddy is removed and raw rice is obtained, which is then ground to flour. Puttu is a South Indian and Sri Lankan breakfast dish of steamed cylinders of ground rice layered with coconut. It is highly popular in the Indian state of Kerala as well as in many areas of Sri Lanka, where it is also known as puttu. Puttu is served with side dishes such as palm sugar or chickpea curry or banana. India is ranked as the world’s largest producer of a number of agri-products including milk and dairy products and pulses .and the second largest producer of rice, wheat, sugar and cotton. India produces more than 200 million tonnes of different food grains every year. All major grains – rice, wheat, maize, barley and millets like jowar (great millet), bajra (pearl millet) & ragi (finger millet) are produced in the country. About 15 per cent of the annual production of wheat is converted into wheat products. There are 10,000 pulse mills in the country with a milling capacity of 14 million tonnes, milling about 75 per cent of annual pulse production. The country is self sufficient in grain production and is the second largest rice producer in the world with a 20 per cent global share. Primary milling of rice, wheat and pulses is the most important activity in food grains processing. As a whole it is a good project for entrepreneurs for investment. Disposable needles are widely used by doctors for injection purpose with the help of syringes. With the increase in population in our country, requirement of medicine and injections has increased. For more strength of people more number of needles is required with syringes. For quick relief, needles are used by surgeons, dental surgeons, Veterinary Surgeons, and by the breeders in the poultry farm, where the farm birds are periodically injected against epidemics. Surgical needles are of two types: those which have an eye through which the suture is threaded and eyeless needles where the suture is inserted into the hollow hilt and held in position by swaging the metal around it. The first patent on an eyeless needle was obtained by the late Sir Henry Souttar in 1921 but in the U.K. their use has only increased appreciably in the past few years. In the U.S.A. 70 percent of the suture needles are of the cycle’s type. The various components of Hypodermic needle shall be made from the following materials shown against each. • The Hub shall be made from free specially treated nylon/ PVC tube. • Stillete- Stillete shall be hard drawn hollow brass wire or stainless steel wire and supplied one for each needle. Hindustan Syringes and Beckton & Dickinson had launched Auto Disposable (AD) syringes. The new age AD syringe makes re-use impossible by locking the plunger after the medicine is injected. Textile Bleaching, Dyeing & Finishing - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

A textile is a flexible woven material consisting of a network of natural or artificial fibres often referred to as thread or yarn. Yarn is produced by spinning raw fibres of wool, flax, cotton, or other material to produce long strands. Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, or pressing fibres together (felt). Textile bleaching is one of the stages in the manufacture of textiles. All raw textile materials, when they are in natural form, are known as 'greige' material. This greige material will have its natural color, odor and impurities that are not suitable for clothing materials. The removal of these natural coloring matters and add-ons during the previous state of manufacturing is called scouring and bleaching. Dyeing is the process of adding color to textile products like textile and fabrics. Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material. After dyeing, dye molecules have uncut chemical bond with fiber molecules. Textile finishing is the term used for a series of processes to which all bleached, dyed, printed and certain grey fabrics are subjected before they put on the market. The object of textile finishing is to render textile goods fit for their purpose or end-use and/or improve serviceability of the fabric. There are several primary properties necessary for a polymeric material to make an adequate fiber: • Fiber length to width ratio • Fiber uniformity • Fiber strength and flexibility • Fiber extensibility and elasticity • Fiber cohesiveness As a whole establishing Textile Bleaching, Dyeing & Finishing Unit is one of the project which has good prospect for the entrepreneurs to invest.

Rice Cultivation - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Rice is the leading food crop in the developing world in terms of total world production. It represents the staple food for almost two-thirds of the world’s population. Rice provides 21% of global human per capita energy and 15% of per capita protein. However, the world’s stocks of stored rice grain have been falling in negative correlation to each year’s consumption levels which now exceeds actual annual production. Rice is generally considered a semi-aquatic annual grass plant, which can be grown under a broad range of climatic conditions. Cultivated rice belongs to the species O. sativa and O. glaberrima. While O. sativais the predominant species, O. galberrimais cultivated on a limited scale and only in Africa. The major rice producers in 2010 were China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Myanmar producing alone more than 75% of the world production. Rice grain comprises the edible rice caryopsis of fruit enclosed in a protective covering, the hull (husk). During the milling process, rough rice is milled to produce polished edible grain by first subjecting to dehusking and then to the removal of brownish outer bran layer known as whitening. Finally, polishing is carried out to remove the bran particles and provides surface gloss to the edible white portion. The duration of growth for cultivated rice varies from 80 to 280 days and can be generally divided into early (80–130 days), intermediate (130–160 days) and late (160+days) maturing cultivars. In the rice plant, three growth phases can be distinguished: the vegetative phase – when the plant begins to partition assimilation to the developing panicle; the reproductive phases with panicle (flowering) development; and the ripening or grain-filling phase which begins after anthesis and ends at maturation.
