India presently imports about 3500 metric tonnes of potato flakes every year, although, there are four major flake manufacturers in the country. According to projections, India, which presently produces about 25 million tonnes of potatoes per annum, will be producing about 50 million tonnes per annum by 2020. Potato processing, therefore, will be essential to sustain the present rate of growth of production which is likely to improve further. A conservative estimate shows that nearly 10% of this projected potato production (5 million tonnes) will be accounted for in processing. The demand for potato Flakes has been continuously growing for the last decade, more so due to the application of the potato flake in a large way in the snack food industry. Thus, due to demand it is best to invest in this project. Few Indian major players are as under: • Asha Ram & Sons Pvt. Ltd. • Aurofood Pvt. Ltd. • Balaji Wafers Pvt.
