Sericulture (Tasar Silk): Project Opportunities in Jharkhand

PROFILE:

Sericulture is an agro-based industry. It involves rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk, which is the yarn obtained out of cocoons spun by certain species of insects. The major activities of sericulture comprises of food-plant cultivation to feed the silkworms which spin silk cocoons and reeling the cocoons for unwinding the silk filament for value added benefits such as processing and weaving. Silk is a fine strand of fiber that is a solidified secretion produced by certain caterpillars to encase themselves in the form of cocoons. India is second largest producer of silk. Sericulture industry is looking out for the developments of young age silk worm rearing or chawki rearing. Care of silk worms start from the stage of procurement of silk worm eggs from the grainage itself. Silk worm eggs are distributed to the farmers for commercial rearing when active development of embryo is in progress. The important aspect of young silkworm rearing management are a suitable separate rearing house or room, well maintained mulberry garden with assured irrigation facilities. Sericulture has emerged as a virtual lifeline and a profitable employment avenue for villagers in Maoist-affected areas in India's eastern Jharkhand. Under the aegis of the Jharkhand state industrial department, farmers are beginning to rear silkworms.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand, much like Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal, is endowed with adequate forest cover. These forests are home to two species of trees -Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) & Asan (Terminalia Tomentosa) which are breeding ground for the moth which produces the cocoon from which Tasar yarn is reeled. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Tussar Food plants are available over an area of 9 lakh hectares. The Singhbhum and Santhalpargana regions are the main silk producing centres in the State. The State is promoting this activity through 28 pilot project centres situated in different areas. Each rearer can rear on an average 200 eggs or Disease Free Laying (DFLs) so the annual demand of commercial seed or egg is of 130 lakh. There are three types of seeds or eggs – Nucleus, Basic seed and Basic seed multiplied to commercial seed.

GOVERNMENT RESOURCES:

Tasar culture is a backbone for Tribal development, and the Government of India, through the Central Silk Board and different State Governments have initiated several developmental and welfare measures for the tribal welfare through it. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Jharkhand Sericulture Development Institute (JSDI) and Jharkhand Silk Technical Development Institute (JSTDI) are being strengthened to give an impetus to this sector. During the year 2010-11, it is proposed to rear 2.35 lakh tasar nucleus DFLs, 16 lakh of tasar basic DFLs and 96 lakh of commercial DFLs through seed and commercial rearers in the State. It is proposed to be benefited 40,000 -50,000 Tasar farmers through Tasar seed production and its rearing during the year.

Steel Industry

PROFILE:

Steel Industry is a booming industry in the whole world. India’s economic growth is contingent upon the growth of the Indian steel industry. Consumption of steel is taken to be an indicator of economic development. While steel continues to have a stronghold in traditional sectors such as construction, housing and ground transportation, special steels are increasingly used in engineering industries such as power generation, petrochemicals and fertilisers. Indian Steel Industry is more than a century old. India has now emerged as the eighth largest producer of steel in the world with a production capacity of 35MT. Almost all varieties of steel is now produced in India. India has also emerged as a net exporter of steel which shows that Indian steel is being increasingly accepted in the global market. The growth of the steel industry in India is also dependant, to a large extent, on the level of consumption of steel in the domestic market. Steel consumption is significant in housing and infrastructure. In recent years the surge in housing industry of India has led to increase in the domestic demand for steel.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand emerges as hub for steel companies. The state is endowed with deposits of Iron Ores of both, Hematite & Magnetite. The Hematite deposits are mainly located in the West Singhbhum District and have a resource base exceeding 3700 Million Tonnes. These have been explored only in pockets by large industry houses in their lease hold. There is a very good scope of enlarging this resource base by further exploration. The Magnetite Deposits are located in the East Singhbhum, Latehar & Palamu districts. They comprise lenticular ore bodies as well as Schist rocks with 80 to 36% magnetic. The exploration of these bodies is yet to be taken up. The existing steel mills are sourcing their iron ore (Hematite) from West Singhbhum. The Magnetite ore is being used in heavy media coal washeries & paints. Tata Steel's largest plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, with its recent acquisitions; the company has become a multinational with operations in various countries. If the interest shown by all the companies, big and small, in Jharkhand's iron ore deposits translates into reality, the state will produce more than half the total steel in India. First Iron & steel factory  is located at Jamshedpur and Largest Steel plant in Asia is Bokaro steel plant.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Under the new industrial policy, iron and steel has been made one of the high priority industries. Price and distribution controls have been removed  as well as foreign direct investment up to 100% (under automatic route) has been permitted.  The Trade Policy has also been liberalized and import and export of iron and steel is freely allowed with no quantitative restrictions on import of iron and steel items. Tariffs on various items of iron and steel have drastically come down since 1991-92 levels and the government is committed to bring them down to the international levels.  With the abolishing of price regulation of iron and steel in 92, the steel prices are market determined. The policy devises a multi-pronged strategy to achieve these targets with following focus areas; removal of supply constraints especially availability  of critical inputs like iron ore; improve cost competitiveness by expanding and strengthening the infrastructure in roads, railways, ports and power; increase exports; meet the additional capital requirements by mobilizing financial resources; promote investments by removing  procedural delays. In addition the policy also addresses challenges arising out of environmental concerns, human resource requirements, R&D, volatile steel prices and the secondary sector.

It follows the cradle to grave approach which is characterization, quantification, segregation, storage, transport, and treatment of BMW. Biomedical waste is classified as a biohazard because of the disease that it might contain. Medical waste contains materials that have been contaminated by body fluids and may contain viruses, bacteria and even harmful drugs such as chemotherapy and radiation drugs. The importance of biomedical waste management should be high on any medical facility’s training and safety procedures. Bio Medical waste consists of • Human anatomical waste like tissues, organs and body parts • Animal wastes generated during research from veterinary hospitals • Microbiology and biotechnology wastes • Waste sharps like hypodermic needles, syringes, scalpels and broken glass • Discarded medicines and cytotoxic drugs • Soiled waste such as dressing, bandages, plaster casts, material contaminated with blood, tubes and catheters • Liquid waste from any of the infected areas • Incineration ash and other chemical wastes Biomedical waste can be disposed of through incineration or decontamination by heating with steam under pressure in an autoclave. Trash chutes must not be used for the transfer or disposal of biomedical waste. Classification of Biomedical Waste Approximately 75-90% of the biomedical waste is non-hazardous and as harmless as any other municipal waste. The remaining 10-25% is hazardous and can be injurious to humans or animals and deleterious to environment. It is important to realize that if both these types are mixed together then the whole waste becomes harmful. • Non Hazardous Waste This constitutes about 85% of the waste generated in most healthcare set-ups. This includes waste comprising of food remnants, fruit peels, wash water, paper cartons, packaging material etc. • Hazardous Waste Biohazard: Biological hazards, also known as biohazards, refer to biological substances that pose a threat to the health of living organisms, primarily that of humans. Humic Acid Manufacturing Industry

Humic Acid Manufacturing Industry. Production of Humic Acid Humic acid is any of a variety of organic acids obtained from organic constituents of soil (humus), coal, and peat. It is also a key component of ocean water, dystrophic lakes, and upland streams. The process by which these acids are formed from humus is not well understood, but it is thought to be formed through the biodegradation of dead organic matter. Humic acid is frequently used as a soil amendment to enhance crop productivity. Humic Acids can be applied as: 1. Seed Treatment 2. Root Dip. 3. Seedling Dip. 4. Foliar Spray. 5. Soil Application. 6. Through Drip Irrigation. 7. Application in Mushroom Bags. 8. Tank mix with Herbicides. 9. Tank mix with Insecticides. 10. Along with inorganic fertilizers. Benefits of Humic Acid Throughout history, farmers have used humic acid to generate healthier plants and a higher crop yield. Today, humic acids are even more essential than ever, for the reasons mentioned above. Here are just a few of the many benefits of humic acid. • Increases nutrient uptake • Increases water-holding capacity in soil • Improves the overall soil structure. • Stimulates microbial activity • Regulates the pH-value of soils. • Chelates toxins from the soil. • Helps to eliminate iron chlorosis by increasing iron uptake • Improves overall plant health, helping plants better resist predators and disease • Stimulates root growth, which increases crop volume • Increases germination Market Outlook The global humic acid market is on track to grow to reach a market value of USD 973.06 Mn by the end of 2023. Bicycle Rim

A bicycle wheel is a wheel, most commonly a wire wheel, designed for a bicycle. A pair is often called a wheel set, especially in the context of ready built "off the shelf" performance-oriented wheels. Bicycle wheels are typically designed to fit into the frame and fork via dropouts, and hold bicycle tires. The first bicycle wheels followed the traditions of carriage building: a wooden hub, a fixed steel axle (the bearings were located in the fork ends), wooden spokes and a shrink fitted iron tire. A typical modern wheel has a metal hub, wire tension spokes and a metal or carbon fiber rim which holds a pneumatic rubber tire. The rim is the "outer edge of a wheel, holding the tire". It makes up the outer circular design of the wheel on which the inside edge of the tire is mounted on vehicles such as automobiles. For example, on a bicycle wheel the rim is a large hoop attached to the outer ends of the spokes of the wheel that holds the tire and tube. In cross-section, the rim is deep in the center and shallow at the outer edges, thus forming a "U" shape that supports for the bead of the tire casing. The regional demand dynamics of bicycle rims is directly correlated with the overall production and fleet of the bicycles. China is projected to dominate in terms of sales and is estimated to remain dominant in terms of demand for bicycle rims owing to increasing sales of bicycles. North America is expected to grow at significant CAGR during the forecast period in the bicycle rim market owing to increasing government regulations to support green transportation in the region.

Disposable Products (Knife, Fork & Cutlery Items (Spoon)

Disposable Products A disposable (also called disposable product) is a product designed for a single use after which it is recycled or is disposed as solid waste. The term often implies cheapness and short-term convenience rather than medium to long-term durability. The term is also sometimes used for products that may last several months (e.g. disposable air filters) to distinguish from similar products that last indefinitely (e.g. washable air filters). The word "disposables" is not to be confused with the word "consumables" which is widely used in the mechanical world. Disposable products are used only once or twice and are often not recycled. When it comes plastic, we aware that it is usually non-biodegradable in nature. Plastic and other disposable products cause a significant damage to our environment. Plastic bags choke the wildlife and refuse to break down in oceans or landfills. They aren’t easy to recycle and make environment pretty messed up. The disposable products market is witnessing an annual growth of nearly 6-7% due to increased consumer spending on personal care products globally. In addition, the demand for improvised comfort, performance and efficient absorbent products is expected to drive demand for disposable products in the near future. Concerns for safety, convenience and hygiene are identified as key factors affecting growth of disposable products market. Disposable Cutlery Items The major items of cutlery in Western culture are the knife, fork and spoon. In recent times, hybrid versions of cutlery have been made combining the functionality of different eating implements, including the spork (spoon / fork), spife (spoon / knife), and knork (knife / fork) or the sporf which combines all three.
