Adhesives and Sealants, Industrial Adhesives, Glues, Gums and Binders, Synthetic Resin, Resins (Guar Gum, Adhesive [Fevicol Type], Sodium Silicate Adhesive, Hot Melt Adhesives, Rubber Based Adhesive, Acrylic Adhesives, Guar Gum Powder, Gum Arabic)

Adhesives and Sealants

Adhesive may be used interchangeably with glue, cement, mucilage, or paste, and is any substance applied to one surface, or both surfaces, of two separate items that binds them together and resists their separation. There are basically two types of adhesives: resin-based and gum-based. The main application areas of the product are furniture, construction, paints and stationery. In between the two types, there are various categories of adhesives sold in the market place. These include:

Natural adhesives:from inorganic mineral or biological sources such as vegetable matter, starch or dextrin, natural resins; animal skin, and bio-adhesives;

Synthetic adhesives:based on elastomers and thermosetting adhesives;

Drying adhesives:a mixture of ingredients (typically polymers) dissolved in a solvent with the solvent evaporating and the adhesive hardens;

Contact adhesives:applied to both surfaces and allowed some time to dry before the two surface are pushed together. Contact adhesives find use in laminates, such as bonding Formica to a wooden counter, and in footwear;

Hot adhesives:thermoplastic adhesives, also known as "hot melt" adhesives, applied hot and simply allowed to harden. These adhesives have become popular for crafts because of their ease of use and the wide range of common materials to which they can adhere;

Reactive adhesives:a reactive adhesive works either by chemical bonding with the surface material or by in-situ hardening as two reactant chemicals complete a polymerization reaction, usually applied in thin films;

Pressure sensitive adhesives:which form a bond by the application of light pressure to marry the adhesive with the adherant, designed with a balance between flow and resistance.

The market size of all types of adhesives is very large and growing. Of this, the premium products account for some 45%. Quantitatively, the overall market size is growing annually at 11%.

Over the last few years, the adhesive business has seen global players setting up new capacities in India. With customs duty nearing ASEAN levels, competition will further intensify from imports as well as the low cost local players.

Industrial adhesives are fluids or gels, which help in holding two surfaces together by sticking to both of them and preventing their joint movement. They include glues and adhesives.

The market for adhesives and sealants is comprised of thousands of end uses. The realm of market applications expands as new end uses keep developing, driven by the need for new and innovative attachment solutions. Adhesives and sealants market is expected to reach USD 18.79 billion by 2020. Positive demand outlook from key end use industries including automotive and construction, mainly in India, is expected to be a key driving force for the market over the next six years. The growth of the emerging markets has not only a positive impact on the volumes of adhesives and sealants consumed (especially in the construction and industrial sectors) but also on the level of technological demand.

Growing demand from packaging industry is expected to drive the market for waterborne adhesives. These are used in label applications, packaging tapes, office tapes, flexible laminations and food packaging as they offer improved chemical and heat resistance. Due to advantages waterborne adhesive it offers and non reactive nature they are proffered in food packaging applications. Further growing demand from automotive industry is expected to drive the market for waterborne adhesives. These are used in interior structures such as dashboards head linings and others. Automotive industry is driven by demand from middle class consumer groups from developing countries such as Brazil, India and China.

Gums and Resins

True gums are formed from the disintegration of internal plant tissues, mostly from the decomposition of cellulose in a process called gummosis.  Gums contain high amounts of sugar and are closely allied to the pectins. Gums are especially common in plants of dry regions.  They are used primarily as adhesives, and are also used in printing and finishing textiles, as a sizing for paper, in the paint and candy industries and as drugs.

Resins are formed as oxidation products of various essential oils and are very complex and varied in chemical composition.  The resin is usually secreted in definite cavities or passages. Resins are also used in medicine; for sizing paper; as a stiffening material for mats; in the preparation of sealing wax, incense and perfumes; and for many other purposes as well.

Resins, gums and latex are almost ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and many of them continue to play an important role in our daily lives. Numerous plants produce some kind of resin, latex or gum, but only a few are commercially important today, even though their uses and applications are truly manifold. They have been used as adhesives, emulsifiers, thickening agents, they are added to varnishes, paints and ink; they lend their aromas to perfumes and cosmetics and even play a role in pharmacy and medicine.

Tannin Based Wood Adhesive - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

Tannin is an excellent renewable resource for replacing petroleum-derived phenolic compounds. The major wood species from which it can be obtained are mimosa, quebracho and radiata pine. It is mainly concentrated in the inner layer of the bark and has been utilized in the adhesives industry in Africa, South America and Oceania. In particular, tannin-based wood adhesives have been used industrially for quite a long time in several countries for the manufacture of exterior wood panels. There are two different types of tannin: wattle tannin composed of resorcinol A-rings and pine tannin composed of phloroglucinol A-rings with catechol or pyrogallol B-rings. The free C6 or C8 sites on the A-ring react with formaldehyde, due to their strong nucleophilicity, to form the adhesive. The phenolic nuclei in tannins also react with formaldehyde. This high reactivity of tannins towards formaldehyde is the result of their A-ring phloroglucinolic or resorcinolic nuclei, which haved 10- to 50-times higher rate of reaction than the reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. Because of this characteristic, less free formaldehyde emission occurs than from other wood adhesives such as phenol– formaldehyde, urea–formaldehyde, etc. Tannins are an important ingredient in the process of tanning leather. Tanbark from oak, mimosa, chestnut and quebracho tree has traditionally been the primary source of tannery tannin, though inorganic tanning agents are also in use today and account for 90% of the world's leather production. Therefore, it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. PE Wax Emulsion - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Waxes are among the oldest worked materials used by humans. Their value as versatile construction materials ("man's first plastic") was discovered very early. Today, waxes are used mostly as additives and active substances. The use of waxes is expected to increase in the future because of their generally favourable toxicological and ecological properties. The word "wax" usually refers to a variety of organic substances that are solid at ambient temperature but become free-flowing liquids at slightly higher temperatures. The chemical composition of waxes is complex, but normal alkanes are always present in high proportion and molecular weight profiles tend to be wide. The main commercial source of wax is crude oil but not all crude oil refiners produce wax. "Mineral" wax can also be produced from lignite. Plants, animals and even insects produce materials sold in commerce as "wax." Wax emulsions are now well established and extensively used in aqueous formulations such as coatings, inks and OPVs, textile and leather treatments, polishes, paper and cardboard coatings, etc. These ready-to-use emulsions can be easily incorporated by simple mixing. Their very fine particle size ensures an intimate and homogeneous incorporation within other ingredients of the formulation, maximizing the required effect(s). Wax emulsions can be stabilized by either a steric mechanism (using with non-ionic emulsifiers) or by an electrostatic mechanism (using ionic emulsifiers, most often anionics). Combining anionic and non-ionic emulsifiers gives the emulsion an optimum stability because wax particles are protected through both stabilization mechanisms referred to as the electro-steric stabilization mechanism. In addition to giving more flexibility in formulating, each stabilization mechanism has not only its own advantages and disadvantages but also significantly impacts on the overall formulation. Polyethylene wax is used in many applications to improve processing and end product properties. It is widely used in plastic, rubber and electrical industry, up to in ink, paint, detergent and chemical engineering industry, wax becomes more important product then ever in general industrial field as raw material additive improving its efficiency. As a whole it is a good project for new entrepreneurs to invest.

Adhesive Based on Epoxy Resin (2 Pack)-Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

The adhesive industry has seen significant changes in recent years. The type and number of these changes have been astounding. They include new substrate materials, regulatory burdens, acquisitions and mergers, new raw materials, new application and curing processes, and a host of volatile technical, commercial, and political issues. Epoxy technology gives the formulator an almost unlimited number of tools to employ. The type of epoxy polymer backbone, curative, resinous modifiers, and special additives or fillers all serve as degrees of freedom available in developing an adhesive system for a given application.Epoxy adhesives are chemical compounds used to join components by providing a bond between two surfaces. They are high-performance thermosetting resins, which display a unique combination of properties. Epoxy resins have been commercially available for almost a half-century and are arguably one of the most versatile polymers with uses across an enormously wide variety of industries. Adhesive markets represent only a small percentage of the total consumption of epoxy resins. However, epoxy adhesives provide significant value added, so that their prices and profit margins are generally higher than those for other adhesive types. Epoxy adhesives represent a significant part of the overall structural adhesives market (about $1.8 billion). The main competitors to epoxy adhesives are polyurethanes; however, thermosetting acrylics and cyanoacrylate adhesives are also strong challengers in certain market segments.Although the overall annual growth rate for epoxy adhesive is in the 3 to 5 percent range, certain regional markets.Thus, due to demand it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. ADHESIVE FROM MAIZE STARCH

An adhesive is used in order to bond two substances together. To enable the bonding the adhesive has to have surface adhesion and cohesion. This means that the adhesive used must be able to develop an adhesion to the substrate and after setting it has to have the required bond strength (cohesion).The wet ability depends on the adhesives and the substrates surface energy. The adhesive, therefore, needs to have a lower surface energy than the substrate. The lower energy is a necessity, because nature aims to obtain a decrease in total energy.The durability of an adhesive joint is affected by other factors as well, for example the application which it is used for (indoors or outdoors), the load it has to bear and the temperature it will be exposed to.In addition to good adhesion and cohesion, there are other requirements on adhesives as well. For example the adhesive needs to be able to go through processing that is normal in adhesive manufacturing and have a reasonable price. Adhesive (Fevicol Type) Water Proofing Grade

Fevicol type adhesives come under the category of synthetic resins and latex adhesives are made from polyvinyl acetate is a thermoplastic, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, essentially clear and colorless resin. WPA is the highest level of “wet strength.” This in itself is a misnomer in that all starch is water soluble. This type of adhesive would typically be used in the most demanding applications. In addition to using 1.5% to 2% “wet strength” resin in relation to the liquid volume of the batch, it is essential that additional starch be applied to the board. These are formulated from compounds like vinyl acetate polymers and copolymers (PVAC), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), acrylics, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), natural rubber latex and synthetic elastomers, and polyurethane (pur). Wall Paper Starch

Starches are inherently unsuitable for most applications and, therefore, must be modi?ed chemically and/or physically to enhance their positive attributes and/or to minimize their defects. Chemical modi?cation of starch generally involves esteri?cation, etheri?cation or oxidation of the available hydroxyl groups on the B-D-glucopyranosyl units that make up the starch polymers.i Reactions used to produce most commercially modi?ed starches have been reviewed by others. Many commercial derivatives are produced by the addition of reactive, organic reagents to aqueous starch slurries while controlling alkalinity (pH 7–9 for esteri?cation and pH 11–12 for etheri?cation) and temperature (typically 60°C). The wall paper starch is used in the fixing of the wallpaper on the walls. This is implied that this shall be directly connected with construction industry and its opportunities.
