A plastic syringe is a cylindrical tool used for many purposes, from medicine to mechanics, to arts, crafts and refilling inkjet printer cartridges. The end is bevelled to create a sharp pointed tip letting the needle easily penetrate the skin. The diameter of the needle is indicated by the needle gauge. Various needle lengths are available for any given gauge. Disposable needles are embedded in a plastic or aluminium hub that attaches to the syringe barrel by means of a press-fit or twist-on fitting. The national immunization policy has adopted the non-reusable, self-breaking syringes, though many States are yet to follow suit for the curative injections. With the development of pharmaceutical industries the use of syringes and disposable needles will also develop. About 70% pharmaceutical industries are in small-scale sector. Disposable syringes are becoming more popular in the medical world due to its lower cost and higher accuracy. Plastic can be used in place of metal without any problem. The procedure is also relatively easy and cheaper. Besides growing market in our own country there is great potential for the export to nearby countries. Apart from the electronic instruments and major equipment, substantial progress has been registered in the area of a number of medical accessories and consumables.
