| Repellents have been developed to effectively repel insects. The demand for this coil is now on the increase year by year not only in this country but also in overseas countries. A considerable quantity of the coils is being exported from Japan during recent years, which is the evidence of world recognition of the true value of the coils. Now, production has been started in South East Asian and African countries under technical co-operation with Japan. The automatic mosquito coil manufacturing machine has materialized mass production by getting rid of various restrictions in manufacture. Synthesized pyrethrine, on the other hand, has enabled production of the material of the coils freely. These may well be called the technical innovations of the mosquito coil manufacturing industry. The total market size of non-agro insect and pest control products is estimated in value terms at around Rs 24 bn. Of this, flying insect (mosquito) repellent market is placed at over Rs 10. bn. The market in India for insect repellents is significantly large, due to the all pervading breeding of mosquitoes and the serious diseases that mosquitoes inflict on the people. The repellent market is primarily divided into the following segments: (i) coils, (ii) vaporizers, (iii) skin creams and (iv) liquids. The market is supplemented by a host of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices to make the basic repellents effective. Of the total insect control market, the relative shares of different product categories are: mats 10%, coils 50%, vaporizers 20% and aerosols/creams 5%. The overall insect repellent market is expected to grow to Rs 32 bn by end 2009-10 and over the next five years towards the end of 2014-15, it is projected to grow to a sizable Rs 61 bn market. At present there is excellent scope for its manufacture. It is therefore advisable to carry out a little research work in formulating, before the marketing is done. The competition in this line is very less and its scope of consumption is large have in comparison. It is expected that the coil is consumable item which has got kindness market potential in future.
