Polypropylene Manufacturing Business

Propylene, also known as propene is a colorless, flammable and gaseous hydrocarbon (C3H6) which is obtained from petroleum. Uses of propylene are quite diverse such as chemical products like glycol and propyl alcohol.

Propylene is deprived or natural or direct production by microorganisms rather it needs an artificial metabolic procedure for direct bio production. Propylene can be obtained from the steam cracking of liquid feedstocks such as naphtha and LPGs. It can also be obtained from off-gases produced in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units in refineries.

Today there are three grades of propylene

Polymer grade (99.5% pure)

Chemical grade (93-94% pure)

Refinery grade (60-70% pure)

Owing to a series of attractive mechanical and chemical properties Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most versatile polymers. It has strengthened its position in consumer and industrial sector. In the automotive sector, PP and its alloys has become the polymer of choice dominating with over one third of plastics in the automobiles sector.

Injection moulded Polypropylene is widely used in electronic and electrical appliances, house wares, bottle caps, toys and luggage.

Film grade Polypropylene is in vast usage in the packaging of sweets and cigarettes, tapes, labels and electronic films.

Polypropylene fibers are used in carpets, clothing and the replacement of sisal and jute in ropes and string.

Global Market of Polypropylene

Out of the gross global consumption of the Polypropylene, majority is held by the Asia Pacific region and in the Asia Pacific region China and India are the biggest consumers. The global market for polypropylene is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 5.5% in the fore coming future. Some of the reasons for such boom in the market are increase in the usage of plastics for reducing vehicle weight for fuel efficiency and constantly soaring demand for flexible packaging among others. Also, recycled polypropylene is certainly going to provide never before opportunities of business in future.

Indian Market of Polypropylene

The Indian Market of the Polypropylene can be easily made from the fact that the demand for Polypropylene (PP) in India grew at a CAGR of around 8.51% during the period 2015-2019. Moreover, the said demand is not expected to come down in the near future but it is expected to maintain a healthy growth rate in the fore coming fiscal years.

In the last fiscal year during the Corona virus pandemic, Polypropylene (PP) came out as a useful choice of raw material for manufacturing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used for avoiding corona virus transmission. Not only that, Government of India has also made strict guidelines for usage of PPE by the medical personnel.

Apart from existing demand for medical apparatus, growing government investments in manufacturing of PPE kits is bound to create an upsurge of demand in the Indian Polypropylene market in the fore coming years. Furthermore, increase in the demand for Bio-Polypropylene films from the flexible packaging sector and pharmaceutical sector will also support the growth of Indian PP market in the upcoming years. In a nutshell, it is safe to presume that the demand of Polypropylene in India is bound to increase in the near future.

Conclusion

Niir Project Consultancy Services (NPCS) has made a project report on “Propylene”. The scope of the project report is to assess potential in the market indigenous and global, negotiations of varied nature, decision making (be it policy related or risk analysis), diverse planning strategies, etc. The report is a consortium of various legal, professional and technical expertises. A deep intrinsic analysis has been given to the report by market experts and many firms have reaped the benefits of the reports made by NPCS.
