Leather Production Process

The process of Leather production has three stages: Preparing the skin for tanning, which includes processes such as the removal of hair and adherent flesh, the tanning in the tanyard, and the surface finishing process.

Preparation – The cured hides and skins are prepared for tanning by several operations, collectively known as the beam house operations. Caustic soda, sodium sulfide, and surfactants are some chemicals that are added to the water to accelerate the soaking of dry-salted or dried hides. These skins are then immersed in the milk of lime to loosen the epidermis and hair roots. To remove the epidermal debris and fine hair roots, we perform scudding.

Tanning: The two main methods used for tanning are Vegetable and Chrome tanning. Vegetable tanning is carried out either in pits or in rotating drums. The Chrome-tanning process most often used is the one-bath method, where the hides are milled in a colloidal solution of chromium sulfate until tanning is complete. After the tanning, to shape and condition the leather, we process the hide further.
