How to Start the Manufacturing Business of Ferro Chrome Alloy

Manufacturing Business of Ferro Chrome Alloy

Ferro chrome alloys are used to produce tungsten carbide. They are produced by both the ferrochromium and micro car end processes. The two most common grades of ferrochrome alloy in production today are FeCr-A, known in Europe as FeCr17(A), and FeCr-B, known as FeCr18(A). Ferrochrome alloys are manufactured to exacting specifications because they are used to produce high-quality tungsten carbide products and tungsten tool materials. Ferrochrome (FeCr) is an alloy of iron and chromium with minor additions of other elements. It is the material from which high strength-to-weight ratio permanent magnets are made. Despite its name, it usually contains no appreciable amounts of chrome, at most 0.1%.

Ferrochrome has a high hardenability and carries an extremely strong built-in magnetic field. This makes it ideal for creating industrial machine parts like generators, hydraulic pistons, and lifting magnets for cranes. Although ferrochrome is only produced in three countries, it’s estimated to be a $7 billion worldwide industry

Iron and chrome are combined in ferrochrome (FeCr), a corrosion-resistant alloy. Chrome content ranges from 50 to 70 percent. High temperatures are used for carbothermic reductions during ferrochrome production. The iron-chromium alloy is formed by reducing Cr Ore, an oxide of chromium and iron. It is typically the electric arc that forms between the electrode tips at the bottom of the furnace and its hearth that produces heat for this reaction. This arc generates approximately 2800°C. A large amount of electricity is consumed during the smelting process. There is intermittent tapping of the material from the furnace. Ferrochrome is melted in the hearth of the furnace, and slag and molten metal are rushed down to the sand bed or ladles once enough material has accumulated. Following the solidification of the metal into cakes, these are moved to the handling yard for cooling, cleaning, and breaking into pieces by Customer specifications. These are then packed for dispatch.
