Plastics, Polymers and Resins, Polypropylene (PP), Polystyrene (PS), Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyester, PA, Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), Polyurethanes (PU), Polycarbonate (PC), Polyethylene (PE)Projects

Plastics have revolutionized our lives, creeping into every nook and corner of our homes and offices. However, India’s per capita consumption of plastics is still 6 kg compared to 25 kg in developed countries. Consumer plastics mainly comprise polymers such as polypropylene, high and low density polyethylene, and vinyl chloride. Broadly plastics can be classified into two types namely Thermosetting and Thermoplastic. The type of plastics includes HDPE, LDPE, PVC, PP, PS, PETE and vinyl plastics, to name a few.

The plastics industry is highly fragmented. There are about 22,000 plastic processing units, of which three-fourth are in the small –scale sector, which also accounts for a quarter of the total polymer consumption. About 30 per cent of the total polymer consumption accounts for recycled plastic. Plastics have a high volume –to-weight ratio, which makes their collection and transport a major cost factor.

The Indian plastics industry has been growing at a phenomenal rate of 15 per cent over the years. Thus its potential is being utilized properly. The boost in the plastics industry is due to the rapid growth of segments like electronics, packaging, healthcare, consumer durables and telecommunication sectors.Annually around six million tonnes of plastic is produced in the country, with the plastic packaging sector growing fastest.

Reliance Industries Ltd., Gas Authority of India and petrochemicals are major producers of polymers in India. RIL, Asia’s largest manufacturer of polypropylene with a combined capacity of over one million tonnes, holds 70 per cent market share.

India will be the third largest plastics consumer after the US and China by 2010 at over 12 million.Plastic goods consumption is expected to double in the next three years.  Experts have predicted that India’s market for finished plastic goods will reach $300 billion by 2012, while exports are expected to reach a level of $200 billion in the same period. India ranks highest in recycling of plastics with 60 per cent of plastic recycled compared with a world average of 20 per cent. Experts have estimated thatthe basic demand for plastic would be boosted over the next years by the housing, automobile and retail sectors.

PVC DOORS

A door is a movable structure used to close off an entrance, typically consisting of a panel that swings on hinges or that slides or rotates inside of a space. When open, they admit ventilation and light. The door is used to control the physical atmosphere within a space by enclosing the air drafts, so that interiors may be more effectively heated or cooled. Doors are significant in preventing the spread of fire. They also act as a barrier to noise. They are also used to screen areas of a building for aesthetics, keeping formal and utility areas separate. Doors also have an aesthetic role in creating an impression of what lies beyond. Doors are often symbolically endowed with ritual purposes, and the guarding or receiving of the keys to a door, or being granted access to a door can have special significance. Similarly, doors and doorways frequently appear in metaphorical or allegorical situations, literature and the arts, often as a portent of change. Architectural doors have numerous general and specialized uses. Doors are generally used to separate interior spaces (rooms, closets, etc.) for privacy, convenience, security, and safety reasons. Doors are also used to secure passages into a building from the exterior for reasons of safety and climate control. PVC doors are waterproof and do not expand, contract or warp when they come in touch with water. They are termite proof and no termites or other insects can harm the product unlike other traditional material, which disintegrate when termite or insects attack it. They are also fire retardant and easy to maintain and install. PVC doors have anti fungal properties with excellent weather ability, durability and above all eco friendly. The Indian construction industry, an integral part of the economy and a conduit for a substantial part of its development investment, is poised for growth on account of industrialization, urbanization, economic development and people's rising expectations for improved quality of living in the coming years. There is a very good scope and market potential for new entrepreneurs to venture into this field.

Polymers have found uses in all spheres of life with demand for better materials, greater functional utility, more economical packaging and versatile and durable all weather products. PVC is a chlorinated hydrocarbon and is a thermoplastic material. Thermoplastic materials are those that can be melted again and again. These materials can be heated to a certain temperature and will harden again as they cool. Its long life excellent resistance to chemicals, its self extinguishing resistance to chemicals, its self extinguishing and electrical properties and availability in a wide range of colours give it an edge over other plastic materials. P.V.C. is of special interest of developing countries like India as it is used in the building industry. It is a substitute for item and steel and non ferrous metal and replaced lead and aluminium. It is also a supplementary material for goods of bulk consumption such as leather and rubber and for electrical insulation paper gloss for containers wood for lamination paneling and asbestos. Nowadays, PVC is commonly used in the construction sector, for example in window frames and shutters, pipe cabling and coating, etc. PVC can be used for tons of other applications from industrial ware and widely used in the healthcare sector, to car spare parts, toys factory, food packaging, raingear, etc. There exist different PVC grades such as coast or blow film, high impact, wire and cable grade, thermoforming, injection molding, rotational molding, etc. PVC is one of the world's most widely used polymers because of its versatility, excellent inherent properties and cost effectiveness, and yet its sensitivity to the processes used to convert it into end products make it a challenge for any PVC compound producer. Developing tailored grades of PVC compound to suit specific performance requirements calls for a wealth of formulation knowledge, technical experience and an in-depth understanding of processing. Success in the laboratory has to transfer not only to the process but also to the individual equipment on which the compound is converted into usable product. The Indian industry has created enough capacity to export polymers in substantial quantities. With the steady build-up of capacities, the downstream products industry is increasingly accessing local supplies. The supplies have expanded from IPCL's Nagothane plant, Reliance's Hazira plant, Finolexs Raigad plant, and South Asia's PET project at Haldia. With the start-up of Reliance's polypropylene plant, the position changed further. India has over 22,000 processing units with a turnover of about USD 6 bn. The plastics machinery industry supplies more than 3000 machines per annum to the industry. India is one of the fastest growing polymer market in the world, and is expected to become the world's third largest polymers market, with a consumption of 12.5 mn tonne, after the US and China, in 2010. The significant domestic demand growth is expected from the user industries such as telecom, food and beverages, packaging, transportation and consumer durables, and from continued substitution of traditional materials like wood, metal, glass. ABS RESIN - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

PRODUCT PROFILE Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resins (ABS) are the largest-volume engineering thermoplastic resin. It is a copolymer made by polymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene. ABS is a bridge between commodity plastics like polystyrene and higher-performance engineering thermoplastics like polycarbonate. ABS resins are composed mainly of styrene and varying amounts of butadiene and acrylonitrile. The styrene base provides rigidity and ease of processability, and acrylonitrile offers chemical resistance and heat stability. The butadiene portion of ABS supplies toughness and impact strength. The composition of ABS resins can vary widely, allowing the production of many different grades, which can thus be tailored for different end-use applications. The electronics industry is the growing outlet for ABS, where it is used for business machines, computers, radios, televisions and telephone handsets. Product characteristics Chemical name : Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resins Chemical formula : (C8H8)x• (C4H6)y•(C3H3N)z) . Melting point : 105 °C (221 °F) APPLICATIONS OF ABS Resin:- ABS resins are consumed mainly in the appliances and electrical/electronic industries. Large volume applications for ABS resins include appliance parts and automotive/transportation uses. Approximately 60% of the total world consumption of ABS resins was for these two markets. The next-largest end use is in the transportation sector (primarily automobiles). In these markets, ABS competes with specialty thermoplastics such as polycarbonates, as well as with commodity polymers such as polyvinyl chloride and polypropylene resins. ABS resins are frequently used in polymer blends for many differing applications. ABSs light weight and ability to be injection molded and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe systems, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads (due to its good shock absorbance), automotive trim components, automotive bumper bars, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys, including Lego bricks. ABS plastic ground down to an average diameter of less than 1 micrometer is used as the colorant in some tattoo inks. ABS is also commonly used in rapid prototyping extrusion-based 3D printers. Its glass transition temperature makes it a material of choice for rapid prototyping relatively high as to reduce unwanted deformation at slightly elevated temperatures but low enough to be safely attainable with standard extrusion setups. GLOBAL SCENARIO: World consumption of ABS is projected to grow at an average annual rate of about 4.0%, with rates of 5–5.5% in China, India and Oceania; 4.0–4.7% in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and Africa; and 3.2–3.9% in Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, and Central and South America. Indian demand of ABS resin in 2010-2011 is estimated around 120,000 tons per annum. Growth rate in demand through 2020 is estimated to be 9% per annum. Global capacity will increase 4% per year through 2012, to 9.8 million tons per annum. The market has diverged into a general purpose sector, where cost and productivity are the most important factors and engineering plastics sector is driving most of the industry's growth.

BISMALEIMIDE TRIAZINE RESIN (BT RESIN) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

PRODUCT PROFILE: BT-Epoxy belongs to the group of thermoset resins used in printed circuit boards (PCBs). It is a mixture of epoxy resin, a common raw material for PCBs and BT resins. This is in turn a mixture of Bismaleimide, which as such is also used as a raw material for PCBs and Cyanate Ester. Three cyano groups of the cyanate ester are trimerized to a triazinering structure, hence the T in the name. In presence of a bismaleimide the double bond of the maleimide group can copolymerize with the cyano groups to heterocyclic 6 membered aromatic ring structures with two nitrogen atoms (pyrimidines). The cure reaction occurs at temperatures up to 250 degrees C, and is catalyzed by strongly basic molecules like Dabco (diazabicyclooctane) and 4-DMAP (4 dimethylaminopyridin). Products with very high glass transition temperatures (Tg) up to 300 degrees C - and very low dielectric constant can be obtained. These properties make these materials very attractive for use in PCBs. Product characteristics: BT / Epoxy possess characteristics that make it an excellent selection for larger panel sizes. Advantages such as a high Tg, low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent electrical insulation in high humidity and at higher temperatures make this to be a good material choice. The enhanced heat resistance of BT resins comes from their ring structure rather than increasing the density of cross links. This means that they have relatively good bond strength and are less brittle than epoxies. It was found that the BT/ Si3N4 composites showed increase in thermal conductivity with Si3N4 weight fraction. The thermal conductivity of the BT/Si3N4 composites was up to 0.94 W/m.K, for a mixture containing 50 wt% of micro Si3N4 fillers in the BT resins matrix, which was about 5 times larger than the pure BT resin. Moreover, the BT/Si3N4 composites had excellent thermal properties. BT resin has become the preferred laminate material for many manufacturers because of its high Tg, low dielectric constant and good insulation properties. Applications of Bismaleimide triazine resin: BT resins having various processing temperature conditions can be formulated, which, after polymerizing and crosslinking, can provide materials with various thermal stability, dielectric constants, and mechanical properties for various applications:- • BT resin is the 'glue' that holds together the glass yarn fibers. • BT resin is used to make substrates that connect chips used in handsets to printed circuit boards, integrated circuits for smart phones, tablet PCs, feature phones, and networking devices. • The proportions in the BT resins are varied to produce different properties: a resin with 10% bismaleimide by weight is used for general purpose printed circuit boards, as it has a similar curing temperature to epoxy resins. • BT is also used to hold the chip dies in place on the packaging substrate material. GLOBAL SCENARIO: BT resin has become the preferred laminate material for many manufacturers because of its high Tg, low dielectric constant and good insulation properties. In fact, BT is now apparently the standard substrate material for BGA's, and is also being used in CSP laminates. Japan accounts for an estimated 90% of worldwide output of the product and MGC alone accounts for 50%. PC Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and Hitachi Chemical, boasting 90% global market share.
