| Coated paper was developed for commercial use about 1885 to fulfill a demand for better printing results. At first, coated paper was produced by a separate conversion process independent of the paper-making machinery. Such a product filled a need for which uncoated paper was unsatisfactory. Resistances to dry and wet abrasion, as well as light fastness, are also in fancy decorative papers. Label papers, soap wrappers, box coverings, shelf and drawer linings require careful selection of coating ingredients. Chinas demand for paper and paperboard is expected to reach 80 million metric tonnes. Last year, China produced a record 35% metric tonnes of paper and paperboard, a rise of 3.6% from the previous year. Chinas fast growing paper industry has promoted large-scale mills and modern technology to replace older and small-scale operations. Demand of E.C.G.
